Exactly three years ago, we shared our first version of Lens on GitHub as an open social network that benefits all. Today, we are excited to share how Lens will scale to serve consumer-level use cases on Ethereum with zkSync stack.
Today, we're excited to announce our $15 million funding round to accelerate the adoption of the next generation of the internet powered by human connection –- the people-powered social layer.
It seems that
@YouTube
(
@Google
) has banned educational web3 accounts on YouTube including
@BanklessHQ
,
@gabrielhaines
and
@optimismPBC
deleting their content and ability to share information with their audiences. We all need to switch to web3 social to keep our freedom of speech
💫 New partnership for Beacons 🖲️
@phaverapp
is building the gateway to web3 social and is excited to on-board Beacon holders onto their product.
Beacon holders that set up an account will be given access to
@LensProtocol
+ more.
Getting arrested for writing privacy preserving code is out of line. This arrest makes all privacy/encryption developers a target. The worst part is people use privacy tools on a daily basis online, because the internet is an unsafe place without privacy or encryption.
1/ Calling all GHOsts 👻
We have created an ARC for a new decentralized, collateral-backed stablecoin, native to the Aave ecosystem, known as GHO.
Read more below and discuss your thoughts for the snapshot (coming soon)!👇
Thank you all (3.2k listeners 🤯) for joining the genesis community call, super exciting on the progress 💚 DM me if you are interested in testing out Lens 🌿
If you love our vision and what we are building, DM me with your Ethereum address and will get you setup to try Lens Protocol beta and retain your early user flexing rights🌿
Yesterday
@LensProtocol
announced the CultivatorDAO (👩🌾,👨🌾) to establish community driven content curation for Trust & Safety. Going to share our vision below on how we see the web3 social stack evolve 🧵
Ryan Selkis (
@twobitidiot
) the Co-Founder & CEO of
@MessariCrypto
and organiser of Mainnet, one of the most important voices of web3, just got suspended. We need to migrate to decentralized social where everyone owns their voice, not your keys not your profile 📣

Welcome

@LensProtocol
👋🌿 If you are Chainlink community member, DM me for an early access for Lens profile mint to follow the latest CL updates in web3 social 🌿
Yesterday was an unfortunate setback for Curve and DeFi. Curve's team is one of the best in the space and I would expect nothing less than coming out strong in due course. Some learnings I want to highlight 👇🏼
Our team is currently working hard on new & exciting tech that we will release in the upcoming months to scale
@LensProtocol
into mainstream without sacrificing user ownership and data availability.
Didn't expect the day to come when PayPal has its own stablecoin on Ethereum, supplied into Aave and across DeFi. Those who grew up using PayPal and witnessing the rise of eCommerce can reflect on the feeling.
Lens V2 is revealed 🔥 extending the shared social network to benefit everyone from creators, builders and users, and much more ✨ we are committed to build the social network that brings user ownership and reduces cold start problem for builders 🌿
Can't believe that we launched Lens Protocol without a client/front-end, but it was the right choice. It gave the community an open design space to build experiences for web3 social
If you are interested in building web3 social on
@LensProtocol
🌿 hit me up, I have bag of ideas that need passionate devs & designers to come and build out
2024 is going to be the most important year for DeFi.
My DeFi journey started 7 years ago when I became passionate about the idea of democratizing finance. Ethereum enabled a platform where financial enthusiasts like me could build open, accessible, and transparent financial
I couldn't imagine FTX meltdown being a big issue as I haven't used centralized exchanges for almost 2 years since DeFi became easier to use. Would not actually even compare FTX to Mt. Gox since DeFi didn't exist back then as a safety net and Mt. Gox had 70% of the volumes
Email-based waitlists are useless in web3. We received over 500k sign-ups for Lens V2 waitlist, mostly airdrop hunters. We added ability to connect wallets which was game changer. On-chain data is the most reliable data to work with due to the skin in the game factor
J.P. Morgan executed its first live DeFi transaction using modified
@AaveAave
Arc and Verified Credentials on Polygon 🥳 Huge step forward on getting tokenized deposits and high tier institutions into DeFi 🚀 Congrats
@TyLobban
& everyone involved! 👏
WORLD! J.P. Morgan has executed its 1st *LIVE* trade on public blockchain using DeFi, Tokenized Deposits & Verifiable Credentials, part of
@MAS_sg
Project Guardian 🙌🚀🔥 Many world 1sts here, & since this is public ⛓ here’s a transparent🧵on what we did:
Momoka has now 5.40k finalized Lens transactions with cost of $4.40 in total 🤯
Cost to settle per tx = $0.00081481481
Peak 25k TPS costs $20.4 in total. Close to S3 pricing
Lens has collected $500k in revenue in less than a week from profile mints, directly into the protocol treasury. Apps have also earned above $100k.
That's a great start for a decentralized social network.
Building a really exciting web3 social experience that is intentionally nothing like Twitter is possible and the decentralized stack is here:
@huddle01
for video and audio support
@Livepeer
for decentralized video encoding
@xmtp
for DMs
@Sismo_eth
for attestations and privacy
Now that the
@AaveAave
Community is preparing for Aave Protocol V3 deployment for Ethereum market 👻 its good time to review why V3 as a flexible architecture is much appreciated 👇🏼
Fed single-handedly decided to raise all your interest rates by 75 bps. Did you as a consumer had any weight on the decision making? 0. This is why decentralized finance is more fair finance
For folks asking Lens profile - you might actually be eligible given that its based your web3 footprint, if you participated in DAOs, minted NFTs, collected POAPs or been at rAAVE. Verify from
Lens API is transforming into Optimistic API. State reflections will happen instantly across the front-ends and blockchain transactions are settled in the background. Web3 social app experience becomes equal to web2 social apps with blockchain guarantees
Ethereum today has more innovation, devs, culture than ever before. With L2s, you can inherit all this into any application and use-case you can imagine. We’re all here for the long game.
Can't believe that all these folks that are running centralized exchanges are giving tips on how to secure your funds - by using a centralized exchange, without mentioning a word about DeFi
Taking control of a single account is no better than being a centralized exchange with a on-chain governance. It sets a very dangerous precedent for against everything we are building for. Even if its possible with governance, that does not mean it should be done
Solana has a history of downtime caused by on-chain liquidations like this (but 100x bigger this time). It's extremely risky for everyone involved.
In the future, on-chain OTC auctions should be implemented as the preferred method for liquidating large positions.
As someone who has been building on Ethereum for few years, there is no way that being Ethereum aligned will bring your product closer to PMF. Be aligned with your users first. I love Ethereum btw.
Happy to on-board few more users into Lens, if you are curious about web3 social, feel free to drop a DM. Prioritizing content creators first as the protocol is still in beta 🌿
Credit Suisse claims to have "strong capital base and liquidity position" however there isn't a blockexplorer you can verify this statement unlike in DeFi where everyone has access to verify the state on-going basis
With these gas fees on Ethereum, I am glad Lens went with the path for Polygon & Momoka for now. Social networking artifacts require very high throughput, but not necessarily the L1 security, and some actions can’t be even limited by the blocktime.
Iran restricted the access to the internet. There is a need to create a more decentralized connectivity stack across the world. Decentralized tech shouldn’t rely on centralized foundations
There has been discussions whether Bogota is the right place to host DevCon. Latam as a region has much of the potential to adopt crypto. I saw it happen in Argentina and Medellin is already a tech hub at this point. Bring Ethereum to people who benefit from it the most.
Transactions in DeFi are auditable by anyone at any second. Compared to TradFi, the positions and the risk can be monitored transprently and anyone can participate in keeping the protocols solvent by liquidating. This is the power of decentralization over financial blackboxes
Huge misconception.
Ethereum is the world's settlement layer not because it has the largest economic security, but because it's the LARGEST VERIFIABLE BLOCKCHAIN with smart contracts.
You don't need to trust validators. You can run a full node on a laptop, the cost is very low.
Welcome Polygon Daily to Lens! 🌿 Any org, DAO, newsletter is still missing a Lens profile - shoot me a message will help you out to mint a decentralized social media profile
