Is it just me or have flights gone up ~50% in price across the board? Is this some form of supply chain shock, or purely tracking inflation? I'm a bit confused how they can increase so dramatically.

@zachtratar more than doubled for me in the last ~2 months - supply chain shock from up the chain + sanctions - post-pandemic travel season - we were used to depressed prices from COVID

@zachtratar yes. 1. pent up demand. 2. staffing constraints (lots left in downturn)

Significant capacity taken out, huge pent-up demand as covid fears fade, and oil prices near ATH; flying anywhere this summer is going to be pricey af

@zachtratar Pretty simple - demand for leisure and business travel is up. Jet fuel price is waaay up. Labor price is up. = substantially higher flight pricing

@zachtratar I mean a huge portion of the expense is fuel, so that could be a factor

@zachtratar Yeah, but they were super cheap in the last couple years though. I bought multiple business class seats for holidays cheaper than I’d usually paid for economy. Prices are returning to normal, with a bit of a premium due to demand and gas prices.

@zachtratar Imo, more like 3 or 4. I used to get round trip from Denver to grand rapids MI for $99 - $125 on United. Just paid $339.

@zachtratar I started skipping flights and just driving if my destination isn’t too far. Takes about the same time anyway with the lengthy tsa process…
