I am convinced that a generation of young people pursuing faithfulness—in the world, in their vocations, in their personal lives—has the power to change everything.

“Many Americans who proudly fly the American flag just two weeks later demonstrate a willful ignorance of the beauty of Juneteenth,” writes Zachary Cote of @Thinking_Nation. “We cannot continue to let this happen.”

At Thinking Nation, we're already planning with schools for next year. Why? Because building historical thinkers doesn't happen by accident. Read more at https://t.co/gZiKHbMX29 #ThinkingNation #HistoricalThinking #SocialStudiesEducation #EdLeadership #TeacherLife

Tomorrow, Thinking Nation kicks off our D.C. School Partnership at the National Archives! We are beyond thrilled to kick off this new curriculum with our D.C. partners, and could not imagine a better place to do it than the building that houses our founding documents!

I just finished MLK's Letter from Birmingham Jail, finished while Trump was sworn in. So much to unpack in that timing.

Historical thinking is empowering; but, it's is humbling, too. When we think historically, we are empowered to enter into conversations about complex ideas. But, we also know our limits. We empathize with who we study. We rely on evidence over our own opinion. We're humbled.

I had fun thinking about the state of education with our team and coming up with our predictions for (social studies) education in 2025. What did we miss? Where do you agree?

I wonder if we spend too much time chasing the moment (Digital literacy, AI literacy, Media literacy, STEM, etc.) when our society might be much better off if we simply aim for what MLK Jr. said: "“Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education.”

Is the education system too much concerned with "meeting the moment" (I.e. "21st century learners) rather than the more timeless goal of creating good people with the agency to think well?

Currently reading "Mourt's Relation" (I believe the 1st written source from the Plymouth Colony). And one of the letters is signed "Resting in Him." I think this needs to be my 2025 motto.
