People don't know much about the Nintendo Virtual Boy, released in 1995 & marketed as the first gaming console capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D graphics. The marketing hooked me right away, my imagination ran wild thinking about this thing 👾

The Apple Vision Pro launch reminded me of seeing the Nintendo Virtual Boy as a kid. I wanted one so badly. Why is it important to remember this innovation from 1995? 👇🏻

The Nintendo 64 was released one year later and was partially to blame for the Virtual Boy being rushed to market in an unfinished state. Nintendo wanted to focus on the N64. The launch price was $180rrp back in '95.

Nintendo promised during development that you would be able to link systems for multiplayer (this was not realised, but modded versions are available today).

The Virtual Boy was cool as hell and ahead of it's time, way too far ahead of it's time. Deserving of the hate? Yes. But as Apple leads us into the next stage of metaverse interaction, I wanted to shout out the VB. Not many people know about this part of our VR heritage.
