On the one hand good, well-used and impressive CGI is absolutely awards worthy but it's depressing to see that now apparently come at the exclusion of entirely practical effects. The behind the scenes stuff for how they achieved Oppenheimer's effects are genuinely mindblowing
@wyattyhalpert
The Creator is far more impressive VFX-wise. Did some truly revolutionary stuff. Loved Oppenheimer’s effects but don’t think it deserved a nomination for a quick 30 second montage and barely any other effects outside of that.
@wyattyhalpert
I think Nolan's comments about CGI in the past and his preference for practical effects, not to mention where the ending credits do not actually credit lots of people who worked on the film ultimately killed it's nomination for best VFX which I think it should be winning.
@wyattyhalpert
In this case I'm fine with the Oscars being more "diplomatic". Oppenheimer will sweep anyway and Godzilla or Mission impossible winning this would be amazing
@wyattyhalpert
Listen I get what your saying but I think The Creator 100% deserves this award. That film has no right to look that good at a 80 million dollar budget.
