don’t want to labour this, but actually I do. April 2016: no masters in creative writing, no competition wins, nothing at all ever published. Nov 2018: a thing which is one of Jon McGregor’s books of the year in The New Statesman. How? The Stinging Fly.
TFW you're on a little bit of a high after celebrating 20 years of publishing in Ireland and next day a book on the history of Irish book publishing is launched that apparently contains no mention of The Stinging Fly magazine or press. (Don't go getting ahead of yourself, kid!)

It absolutely drives me bananas the way they teach writing in middle schools. Formulas and taking off points for imaginary errors. Way to murder young people’s imaginations and love of language, damn.
