“Every time language dies, cultures die. And we’re less rich as a result. For indigenous people, language is the heart of culture,” Regis Pecos, co-founder of the Leadership Institute at Santa Fe Indian School & former governor of Cochiti Pueblo. #nmpol.

Access to internet was essential before the pandemic & will be when its over. Unfortunately many students, particularly Native children living on tribal lands, lack reliable internet access in a time of #remotelearning. This video explores those challenges

Must-watch video from @NABPInstitute & @NMPovertyLaw that explores how lack of internet access has made education impossible for students across tribal communities. Now more than ever students need access to high speed internet & technology infrastructure.

It's shown by our state’s bottom ranking in academic achievement, & in our unbelievably high ranking in poverty, hunger, health disparities & youth suicide. This report blends the voices of our tribal community w/ evidence produced by decades of research.

The systemic failure of the education system has been well documented over many decades. A fundamental cause lies in a history of institutional racism & an ongoing violation of children’s civil rights. ALL children in #NewMexico have been hurt by this in one form or another.

The To’Hajiilee community is a closer to getting clean water. “It's unfathomable that anybody in the U.S. doesn't have access to reliable drinking water. For an Indigenous community here in NM to not have water is a humanitarian tragedy.” -Sen. Ivey-Soto

“No one should have to worry about having clean water in their communities. If we believe that water is life, then we must act as a community to do everything we can to help our neighbors in To’Hajiilee.”
