The govt deliberately hid tests it commissioned pre #Grenfell that showed #cladding was dangerous & flammable. The govt then engaged in deceit & cover-up post Grenfell. It is now time for the govt to pay a hefty compensation to ALL its victims of the #BuildingSafetyCrisis.
The chain of cover-ups that led to Grenfell - UnHerd. @PeteApps whose book is excellent. Points out here the attempts by government POST Grenfell to claim the cladding on the building had been ‘banned’. Proven not true by the ban later announced

Delighted to have been shortlisted for this year's BJA. I always say I'm just a conduit for your stories. You know where I am. And thanks to all those of you who've trusted me to put them on television.

A meaningless collection of words which read as if produced by an LLM trained exclusively on PM's tweets for the last 15 years. Before 2017 the 'red tape' we avoided included rules prohibiting combustible cladding from tall buildings I wonder what it'll be this time

We're meeting @SteveReedMP and @SamanthaDixonMP today. The last 15 months have seen no real progress. Accelerating remediation means little without resolving the issues. Their plans will do nothing to help people any time soon. Labour must do much more to keep its promises.

‘We have a bigger issue ... the first rung of the property ladder is toxic.' Housing campaigner @HarryScoffin thinks the Tories' pledge to abolish stamp duty ignores ’substantial issues’, instead favouring the 'politics of easy answers’.

Likely my final email to @Keir_Starmer before we go to court. He's offered faux support for 5 years, and put a clown in charge of @mhclg. Evidently, housing is not a serious issue for @UKLabour. @EOCS_Official @AndyBurnhamGM @KirstieMAllsopp @PeteApps @charlieclinton

Still waiting for dates and times for our promised appointment with you, Lucy. @UKLabour surely wants a DPM whose constituency office is efficient at very least. @Keir_Starmer Being a ‘voice’ is not enough. Action must follow.
Ballots begin to drop today. Remember, members decide their Deputy. It’s a party role not a government one. In the great traditions, I would be a distinctive voice, the members voice, full-time.

@SteveReedMP Talk is cheap. There are empty flats in our block because shared owners can't sell. Their flats are unmortgageable. The Govt & the GLA could act decisively, fund buybacks and convert their tenure to social or affordable rent. They deliberately choose not to. ❌

The government has opened a consultation on reforming the home buying and selling process. A key part of the consultation looks at leasehold sales information - including whether important details such as service charges should be made available to buyers upfront. Service

Morning @SamanthaDixonMP You're the Building Safety Minister. How many builders are needed to fix the thousands of buildings that need fire safety remediation?
🔺 Britain needs a million extra builders to hit Labour’s targets https://t.co/3nqb4q68vq

Under new proposals, this would have been revealed sooner, but broader point is being missed...lenders are nervous, there are more hoops to jump through post-Grenfell and sellers - like my neighbour - often can't access information from developers, which is now being requested

A mortgage lender has pulled out of the sale of a two-bedroom flat in the small block where I live because we don't have an EWS1 - even though block is under 11m and has no cladding. This is just one illustration of why MHCLG's plans to speed up the buying process are misguided

👀 Read this and imagine what compensation leaseholders could get* for secret commissions on their buildings insurance. *If @TheFCA was doing its job as a regulator.

👀 Chickens are coming home to roost. People realise that newbuilds are not fit for purpose.
Builders are also struggling to sell 'off-plan' housing ie, flogging it to investors before its built. You used to sell as much as 60% of new build like this, now its down to around 15% according to industry sources. Costs are also up a lot generally

We joined a @LabourList panel on building safety today. In this worrying era of "build, baby, build", it's clear there's much more to do before Labour can deliver an end to this crisis. Our thanks to @fbunational for the invitation. #Lab25
🌹 It's been a busy day at #Lab25 for LabourList events - and its not quite over yet! We've had four fantastic panels today - on the building safety crisis, on the school attendance crisis, on the challenges of UK-US foreign policy, and on the potentials and pitfalls of AI. Big
