#OTD, 27 November 1582, William Shakespeare who was just eighteen married Anne Hathaway who was twenty-six years old. Few references to Anne survive, but their relationship remains a source of speculation - and gossip - as Anne was three months pregnant when she married William.

Recently visited St Cross Hospital outside Winchester. England’s oldest almshouse, founded 1130s, still going. The church is late Romanesque transitioning to early Gothic, and completely sublime. My thanks to @GeorgeTrefgarne for the visit!

Lady Margaret Beaufort’s impressive tomb is located in the south aisle of her son’s Lady Chapel in Westminster Abbey. The gilt bronze effigy on top of the tomb has a life-like face that was most likely modelled on Lady Beaufort’s death mask.
