🚫 Should U14 teams run set plays? The problem with coaches teaching "motion" and sets at this age group are that teams stop running and playing fast. For youth teams, especially U14 and below, the highest value shots will always come in transition. That’s why teaching

@transformbball Its 1000% important to learn to run offenses. I think you'd definitely benefit running motion offenses that arent so structured where you only playing for 1 particular shot. But no offense just means iso, which probably means 4 guys constantly watching 1

@nededwards34 There's so much more you can do run offense instead of motion, NOT including isos! https://t.co/8HI1efm0i4

@transformbball Teach em how to play:common bball sense , spacing, attack and read, team play while understanding the hot guy or if still applicable a post player, running the court. And most importantly play hard with a great attitude. Don’t Teach plays, TEACH EM HOW TO PLAY-

@transformbball Yes, 12’s start with spacing. Pass, cut and replace in a 5 out motion offence 14s & 16s must understand the philosophies of a 5 out or 4 out 1 in motion offence that creates space for driving and on ball screens. It allows everyone to face the basket and touches the ball

@transformbball can give the players a good foundation in how to get open, moving without the ball, recognizing proper spacing, setting good screens, flashing, slipping, rolling off said screens as a counter to what the defense is doing.

@transformbball Before 14U they should be running transition, early offense, & offensive sets (both man and zone). They should also be able to run man & zone principles on defense.

@transformbball U14 rec or AAU? Those are 2 HUGE differences, but the answer is YES they should. As a player, if I a HS coach draws u p a play, you should know how to run it. Might not be perfect, but you should know what I mean when I say elbow screen, and roll to hoop after etc....

@transformbball Completely disagree with this take. Why? From youngest age possible, best practice is 2 'teach' & then have players 'learn' & then 'execute' ... BOTH (transition + 1 'set' multi-functional play with myriad options & counters) & applicability of each, not just 1 or other. 💡

@transformbball Odd question. Of course transition is important but many offensive possessions began out of dead ball situations.
