This example of the railway not thinking of passengers isn't even about the lack of a joined up railway. It's one @GWRHelp service connecting onto the final GWR Newquay service of the day. Instead of delaying that train by 2 mins, they chose to delay passengers by 2.5 hours 🤷♂️
Probably won’t plan to get the last train of the day after it wasn’t held for a minute last night 🤣 Only took 2.5 hours for the replacement taxi to show up 😭

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp That is frustrating to see!! It's not rocket science. For instance, on Thursday night, my train at Preston to the Airport, was held for 5 mins, for passengers off a terminated TPE at Preston, to be able to jump on ours to continue to Manchester. That was excellent teamwork.

@trainfanmatt @Railpassion1 @GWRHelp Delay repay, only for it to be contested, 'not a stipulated connection time'...

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Of course yesterday it was held for 20mins but when I want it it’s not held 🤣 Then of course there’s no staff at Par at that time so had to rely on a very nice guard who’d just finished their shift to help us.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp That’s disappointing to see as GWR used to be excellent at holding connections like this.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp They usually do hold the branch connections so they probably just screwed up. Windermere is usually held too as the shuttles serve little purpose other than connections from the mainline.

@trainfanmatt It does seem to be rather hit and miss when it happens. I got delayed 18 mins last month for 2 late running trains down the main because I was the last one of the night down to Fareham.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Yeah I can feel those passengers pain at that point - it's clear there was more care towards punctuality than passengers needing to get home in this instance!

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp God's Worse Railway. Awful train company. Once booked me on a train that never ran, and got me stranded.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Strange, the last time I got the last train home I was in Wales and they kept the train back for us. Although the train before that was cancelled.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Years ago, a late Charing Cross-Dover train arrived at Paddock Wood as the Medway Valley local left. There were two judges and barristers heading to Maidstone Crown Court. The exchange of views with the station manager was, shall we say, very entertaining! Taxis were provided.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Years ago, when I worked on the railway, "booked connections" i.e. timetabled connections were "held", so that passengers expecting a connection to their destination could rely on it.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp I used to encounter this in a smaller degree daily three Elizabeth line trains into Slough from London an hour also three GWR trains that go one stop to Windsor Windsor train seems to be set to be on the platform but pulls out as you cross the bridge and the guard relishes it

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp Missing the last @AvantiWestCoast train PRE-GLC on a Saturday means a #14HOUR wait for next service Unless you think more sensibly then railway A short walk & you catch @nationalexpress coach after checking with #Control to confirm available seats #TotalMobility #JoinedUpThinking

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp That is shoddy service absolutely if your correct .. Why wait more than 20min Next time Get your own taxi Pay for it Send the copy of the receipt for payment Prepare to go to small claims if they allow it .. Never wait more than 20min for a taxi when you have other choice.

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp @AlexHynes @Heidi_Labour all the nice shiny trains &c but if you can't get this most basic detail sorted .... a #TotalMobility mindset would have looked at bus/coach from #StAustell/#Truro/#Camborne?

@trainfanmatt @GWRHelp It’s because they’ll get fined more for a delayed train than the taxis will cost them. Profit before customer safety and convenience - a ridiculous system.
