The People’s House has seen few days as glorious as this. Lost it when Her Honor said “My family went from segregation to the Supreme Court in one generation” and quoted Maya Angelou: “I am the dream and hope of the slave.” Looking around, I wasn’t alone.
Happy KBJ Day.
A former colleague from the Obama Administration just shot me a text: “remember when we abided by the Hatch Act?” We were all so quaint and naive back then, following the law and such.
I don’t care how many nakedly partisans signs they put out on the White House South Lawn—that place belongs to the People, not any political party or politician, and the president is only an invited guest.
Watching wife
@mayaharris_
, daughter
@meenaharris
and niece Ella Emhoff as they introduce my SiL
@kamalaharris
accept the Democratic nomination for Vice President of the United States.
I’m not crying, you’re crying.
I’ve been to 7 Democratic National Conventions and was a delegate at 4. This is by far the best and most entertaining roll call vote for nominating a president that I’ve ever seen.
So
@meenaharris
for your birthday I decided to gift myself (parent’s prerogative) by posting one of my fav pictures of the two of us. It’s one of those reminders that even before you were a Phenomenal Woman, you were a fabulous daughter.
Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!
Never been prouder or more thankful for you
@kamalaharris
. Together with
@douglasemhoff
and
@mayaharris_
you waged a campaign that touched millions, improved the 2020 race and helped little girls around the country reimagine what’s possible. Love you all very much. ❤️
One of the greatest privileges of my life was to serve the American people as Assoc Atty Gen of the US, not least bc of the amazingly courageous DOJ career attorneys who always put the independence and integrity of the US Justice Dept first.
Fourth prosecutor withdraws from the Roger Stone case. This is an extraordinary development about the Justice Department and a marker about justice in America.
I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked
@KamalaHarris
— a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.
This morning’s must read from
@michele_norris
: “A smiling woman stands her ground and shoots a forceful look that requires a man to follow the rules. She only seems monstrous if progress is what you really find scary.”
Random person: “Aren’t you Meena’s dad?”
Me (with toothy grin full of pride): “Why, yes—yes I am.”
Random person: “She’s so amazing.”
Indeed—always has been, always will be.

This morning
@TheRock
endorses Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, saying it’s the first time he’s publicly endorsed a presidential ticket. “In my opinion,” he tells Harris, “you are a certified badass.”
Nobody does it alone. You two belonged to each other long before
@KamalaHarris
belonged to the nation, and now the world will benefit from the special sisterhood you’ve shared.
Folks in Congress each take an oath to preserve, protect and defend our democracy. So if you’re one of those privileged with the honor of representing the American people and you’re not calling BS on this naked attempt to cling to power, find another line of work.
Everyone depends on the USPS. Seniors for their Social Security, veterans for their prescriptions, small businesses trying to keep their doors open. They can't be collateral damage for an administration more concerned with suppressing the vote than suppressing a virus.
Feeling thrilled, exhausted, optimistic, proud and immensely grateful after a week which proves that Grace is real — because no man deserves blessings such as these.
That day when a little girl from Oaktown became the first black woman to be a major-party vice-presidential nominee...😭
So incredibly proud of you, sis!
❤️🤍💙
We’ve just witnessed a debate so historically toxic that some folks may be so turned off all they can say is “to hell with it.” But don’t take that bait. You have the power because you have the vote.
Mr. Floyd is the kind of credible, relatable witness I always dreamed of having in my case whenever I was in trial. And his explanation about cash? Exactly what my late father—born in 1940s rural Georgia—taught me.
DA Fani Willis' dad Mr. Floyd having to explain that keeping cash is a "Black thing" is peak Black History Month. This was a really effective moment bolstering Fani's explanation.
I’ve voted in every presidential election since 1984. None has been more important nor more consequential than this, and there’s no ballot I’ve been more proud to cast.

Today’s must read from
@EJDionne
. Those of us who’ve been privileged to serve at DOJ know it’s the People’s Department, not any president’s law firm. What’s happening not only saddens me; it’s a reminder that the rule of law without justice is tyranny.
When the fires of repression threaten the basic tenets of American democracy, we can watch it burn and hope the flames don’t touch us or speak up and fight the fire.
Few in public life have served with more commitment, more perseverance, more authenticity or more courage than Rep Elijah Cummings. His loss may be felt most acutely in Maryland, but it reverberates in every heart that loves fairness and seeks justice.
We lost a giant today. Congressman Elijah Cummings was a fearless leader, a protector of democracy, and a fighter for the people of Maryland. Our world is dimmer without him in it.
Ok, what’s the word for when you’re so ridiculously proud of your daughter
@meenaharris
for writing the coolest children’s book about her mom
@mayaharris_
and auntie
@KamalaHarris
? Whatever that is, that’s me.
Can I just say: I appreciate all of the political and journalistic experience commentating around the
@CNN
post-debate roundtable, but nobody has been breaking it down better or more incisively than

ICYMI: Take nothing for granted this fall. As a young staffer on Dukakis ‘88, I’ll never forget the euphoria I felt on the convention floor in Atlanta when he accepted the nomination. 17 points ahead in the polls and we couldn’t lose.
Until we did.
Everything u need to know abt my wife
@mayaharris_
: 6 yrs ago today I was confirmed as Assoc AG of the US. Senate vote was 98-1. Proudly told Maya of the bipartisan support I garnered. Her furrowed-brow response: “Who was the one?”
“America needs a president who reflects the decency and dignity of the American people; a president who speaks the truth; and a president who fights for those whose voices are too often overlooked or ignored.”
If you love this country and know its history, you realize this campaign is definitely about more than just politics—esp to those little girls who look like my granddaughters and niece and see in
@KamalaHarris
possibilities for their own futures.
I have lupus. I haven't spoken publicly about it before now. But then coronavirus hit, killing black people at alarming rates & Trump unnecessarily put lupus patients—disproportionately black women—at higher risk. So I wrote this for
@TheAtlantic
.
Every American citizen should be able to freely and fairly exercise their right to vote for whomever they choose. Earlier today I joined CNN’s
@FWhitfield
to talk about this issue and why corporate America cares about it.
This weekend’s must read: Politico reveals a key reason why I believe
@KamalaHarris
will win the presidency next year. As a husband,
@mayaharris_
makes me so proud; as a citizen, she gives me great hope.
So proud of and inspired by my BiL, the
@SecondGentleman
, for representing our country, his faith, and our family at the White House menorah lighting ceremony tonight. His words tonight remind us we share so much more in common than not.
@nytimes
This is completely wrong.
@Uber
will absolutely comply with the law—but the law does not “require contract workers to be reclassified as employees.” I made that clear on a call today with your reporters.
Must admit, never gets old: doing a morning run wearing my

T and getting high-fives, fist-bumps and shouts of “Go Kamala!” from random strangers.
Dad, hard to believe you’ve been gone 10 years. Not a day’s gone by where I don’t feel you in my instincts, hear you in the words I speak, or see you in every mirror I look into. Thank you for the lessons, laughter and love that continue to guide my life journey.
“In this election, there are two clear choices. There are two. And which choice is reflective of who we aspire to be as – as a country and as a people.” –
