#Uranus is also known as "the sideways planet" because its axis of rotation is tilted 97.7 degrees. This ice giant rises high in the northern hemisphere evenings these days, tucked in between the constellation of #Aries, #Pisces and Cetus in the southeast. Image credit: @NASA

The #Orionids meteor shower takes place every year between October 2nd and November 7th. This year the #meteorshower is expected to peak during the early morning hours of October 20-22. The Orionids bring an average of 20-30 #meteors per hour at their peak in a dark sky.

Known as the Hunter's Moon to the First Nations of North America, October's #fullmoon provided hunters with sufficient moonlight in the dark to pursue animals to feed on during the winters. This image shows the full moon as seen from the #ISS above the #Earth. Image: @NASA

This brilliant image is one of the latest from the #Spitzer Space Telescope, observed in infrared light. Located within the #MilkyWay this region is filled with numerous young stars embedded in clouds of dust and gas and is rich in #star formation. Image credit: NASA

One of the brightest #star clusters in the Northern Hemisphere, the #Hercules Globular Cluster (M13) is home to over 100,000 stars, so densely packed that they often collide with one another, creating new stars. It lives 25,000 #light-years away in the #constellation of Hercules.

#Cassiopeia, the queen of Aethiopia and the mother of #Andromeda, is a #constellation comprised of five major #stars that form a "w"- or "m"-like shape. Currently, Cassiopeia can be spotted in the north-northeast direction in the #nightsky. Image credit: @NASA

Last week, #NASA announced that the Transiting #Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) had observed a #blackhole ripping apart a #star, the first observation of its kind. This animation depicts the fate of the star as it approaches the black hole. Video credit: @NASA

Here we see the various observations of Pluto over the course of many years. 3.7 billion miles away from the #Sun, Pluto is too distant to be observed at night, but rises later in the evening in proximity to #Saturn and the constellation of #Sagittarius. Image credit: @NASA

The #Andromeda Galaxy, located in the #constellation of Andromeda, is our closest major galactic neighbor. At approximately 2.5 million #light-years away from us, this spiral #galaxy is home to over one trillion #stars, around twice the number in the #MilkyWay.

Today marks the autumnal #equinox in the Northern #hemisphere. Twice a year, all locations on #Earth experience roughly equal lengths of day and night during equinoxes. As days begin to grow shorter and cooler, landscapes will slowly start changing to the colors of #fall.

#Titan, #Saturn's largest moon, has a diverse structure: frozen ice surface with lakes and seas of hydrocarbons, subsurface liquid water oceans, and an #Earth like nitrogen heavy atmosphere - all factors making it potentially habitable for life. Image credit: @NASA

Hubble Space Telescope's latest image shows the faint #galaxy UGC 695. At 30 million #lightyears from #Earth, UGC 695 lives in the #constellation Cetus (the sea monster), which rises in the East-Southeast later in the evenings this time of year. Image credit: NASA

The September #fullmoon, also known as the #HarvestMoon, will in fact be a #micromoon this year. As opposed to appearing much larger in the sky, it will appear smaller in the sky due to the fact that it is at #apogee: the furthest distance from the #Earth.

#Messier 11, the #WildDuckCluster, is an open cluster of 3,000 #stars. Visible in the Scutum #constellation, just above #Sagittarius, M11 lives 6,200 #lightyears away. The cluster got its name due to its resemblance to a flock of birds in a V-formation. Image credit: @NASA

As frozen balls of gas and dust hurtle through #space, close contact with the #Sun causes them to heat up and release material. #Comets have distinctive comas, or atmospheres, around the body and long tails behind them in the opposite direction of their motion.
