Every year I talk to high school kids about their goals, its all play D1. I get it. Shoot for it. But please go and watch practices or games at D3 and D2 schools to see what it takes first. You’d be very surprised how good the players are.

Did some research today. Since 2014 — GP has prepared over 150 players for the NFL Draft and we’ve had 80 of them get signed to NFL contracts. We’ve also trained 30 NFL players throughout the off-seasons. Not bad for New Castle, PA.

I’m fine with every college player pursuing professional football after graduation — I just wish a lot of the players trained in college as hard they will for their pro day. Might have a better chance at making it if they valued the years prior as much as the months before.

We grew up in an era where you only made a highlight film if you were good. Now young athletes put together film of sub par highlights, it gets 100 likes and comments hyping them and they now “think” they’re good.
Young Athletes today care more about making a cool IG video then actually working/training hard.

There is an epidemic of young athletes who no longer respect the game. I’m not the old guy who says all kids are soft but I do think there’s a big disconnection between appreciating what athletics has done for you and paying it back to the sport.

As a coach it’s not your responsibility to get players to “like you”. Holding each player accountable to their individual and team goals is the only job you have. Some will like you, others with not, but fixating yourself on the latter group is a recipe for failure.

Advice to high school athletes: Improve your body by becoming a weight room freak, play harder/play multiple sports and go to TONS of camps at colleges instead of DM’ing and emailing every college coach in the country. SHOW DON’T TELL.

The transfer portal definitely has a lot of players who didn’t hold up their end but it also has players who were given up on too early and didn’t feel wanted. Let’s do a better job of developing them and helping them through 18-22 better. It’s a lot harder than we remember.

Call me old school/crazy but I think wearing a teams full uniform on a visit is a little off. To me, putting that schools jersey on is something earned, not something you do for show. Pretty soon the players parents on the visits are gonna walk around in polos and headsets.

Instead of making lofty 2020 goals make 3 very easily attainable goals on a daily basis and watch your life improve. (Ex: Wake up 15 min earlier every day, read 15 min a day, call a friend every day, Etc)
