@oolongcreama that being said, i snuck her in one more time at the end, to witness herself picking up the pieces and moving forward. how and when we'll heal isn't knowledge we're privy to - in the wake of heartbreak, it's impossible to imagine. despite that, it will happen.

@oolongcreama these things are known long before loss fully hits us. we know we're going to be different from now on, and we know we're in for a rough time. we come back to our room and we already know how it's going to fall apart.

@oolongcreama one last thing. two gigis share a shot 3 times through the song. 1 when she comes home, locks eyes with the person she was yesterday, and says goodbye. 2 when she looks over the future disarray of her room, unsurprised.

@oolongcreama speaking of. these shots were a challenge. not because of the animation, but because i had to play the audio over and over to check the timing, and had to keep stopping to cry. i wanted to convey a love that's felt, even if it's out of reach now.

the illustrious @oolongcreama drew these for me when i was planning the 2D segment, and i'm in love with them. i ended up shifting to first person shots in the end and couldn't use these in the final cut, but i owe him for setting the tone for me.

i wanted to keep the acting subtle. things might be easier if we cried it all out immediately, but after a devastating loss i think many of us just.. don't know what to do. our world stopped but the planet still turns. it's disorienting. we try to keep moving with it and fail.

i kept going "well, she has to do x here, and then the mood changes so she has to y, and this scene should feel different too," and this continued on until i had the full MV planned out with 0 recycled animation. 🧍

originally, the idea was just to make a handful of looping gifs that could be arranged to the beat in comp (like しあわせになんてならないで). then i got the lyrics and demo mp3 to work with, and the idea was abandoned almost immediately...

i was once again blindsided by the fact that gigi trusted me of all people to work on such a deeply important and emotionally raw project. i don't understand her choices but i am grateful for them.

normally after a big project goes up i just unplug and go back into the woods, but i have a lot of feelings about this one so it deserves a write up

it's a special song and i had to stop in the middle of planning shots to cry several times about it. ty gigi for trusting me with this project and @oolongcreama for the beautiful set and being the perfect collab partner
