I work with franchises, teams, and coaches in every major sport. Only in MLB is the gap between the competitive interests of owners vs. coaches/players this large. And owners are unapologetic about it. Crazy to me how normal and accepted this is in a PRO SPORTS league!.

Pro players have to “put pressure” on ownership to compete?!. Embarrassing. Exhibit A why MLB has tanked in America. 50% of owners in MLB do not care about competing or winning on the field. They care only about profit and the $ value of the franchise.

Let your kids struggle. Not all day. Not so much it breaks them. Not for the rest of their lives. But for the sake of their future and ours, let your kids struggle and learn early how to deal with friction, adversity, self-reliance, discipline, and the weight of responsibility.

Talented but undisciplined players create stress for coaches. Literally … coaches lose sleep staying awake at night thinking about these players, not just as athletes and teammates, but as people. • “Why won’t they just do the simple things we’re asking?”. • “How can I make

Resistors on your team? Try this leadership messaging:. “I’m not against you. I’m for you. I’m for this team. I’m for the mission we are trying to accomplish. Whatever is necessary for us to achieve our mission, for our team to succeed, and for you to succeed, I’m going to act

Whatever you’re hiding from you will eventually face. By choices in your control or by forces beyond your control. Because eventually there’s nowhere left to hide. Hiding from fear. Hiding from yourself. Hiding from the truth. Hiding from criticism. Hiding from adversity. Hiding.

Thinking of discipline as an on/off switch is detrimental to your health emotionally, physically, and socially. This either/or approach creates dramatic swings in your behavior. There’s a better way. Think of discipline as investing in things you value, one action at a time.

Want better team execution?. Execution is a product of behavior, not talent or scheme. Personal excellence drives team execution and excellence. Great execution happens because of behavior skills and leadership skills. They must be taught, trained, and led.

The price of extraordinary achievements is not extraordinary talent. It’s showing up when you’re not feeling it. It’s working through the days that try to break you. It’s fighting through your own discouragement. Event + Response = Outcome.

Who cares when people stand up to stretch after a flight? Let it go already. Standing up doesn’t deserve ridicule. It’s not a problem. Rushing and pushing up the aisle is the problem. Those people deserve public shaming.

‘Buddy’ depends on context and tone. Calling a man ‘Guy’ is a slur in any context. If you use it, prepare for conflict.
