Very excited about this review coming out! We learned so much from these last 10 years of genetic studies in HCHS/SOL; can’t wait to see what genetic research in the next decade will accomplish to improve health of Latinos.

With this in mind, is it a surprise that fewer women are Nobel laureates?

Perhaps more than my intellectual drive, much of what I do is driven by the resources I have access to. Resources: money, devices/computing, collaborators, people who choose to be my mentees.

I was just thinking how nice it would be to add another attachment to my grant applications.
Hot take with AI playing a major role in the Nobels this year: I think NSF and NIH should make people proposing AI projects to submit an energy usage estimate. How much energy will you burn on this and where does the data center you’re going to use draw power from?

Now out in press @jclinicalinvest : we identify pQTLs using the OLINK 3K platform in diverse populations from @JHS_HeartStudy and MESA @nih_nhlbi, highlight allelic heterogeneity across populations and perform PheWAS in @AllofUsResearch and BioME https://t.co/cEsGs9LSBc 1/3

Ayya ❤️ Looking forward to reading the paper— looks super interesting!
I had the opportunity to present my PhD research today at @CHILconference. Grateful for the chance to share insights and connect with researchers at the intersection of Health and Machine Learning. And thanks to the organizers for an inspiring conference! #CHIL2024

Hey #SOBP2024. Come find me at the meeting if you're looking to move to a supportive institution w/resources, ambitious goals, + inspiring leadership. There are MANY terrific opportunities at Purdue for post-docs, analysts, etc to join my group or become faculty in sociogenomics.
The Dunn Lab is majorly expanding given my new role at Purdue. If you're in the Midwest/contemplating a move there - and #ThinkBroadlyLeadBoldly - join our fast-paced, interdisciplinary, and dynamic team. We are hiring for multiple roles. Learn more here:

2. “Race” has a historical context where it was deliberately constructed to imply biological differences between group. “Racism” refers to the experiences an individual had that influence their health. These cannot be captured well by socioeconomic measures.

1. In an inspiring talk by @paulabraveman about social determinants of health, she suggested to stop using the word “race” and instead use “racism”.

I am very well funded. I love being a good and helpful colleague, and I benefited from the inclusion of experts at the 5% salary support level in my grants. And yet. The administrative burden. The potential burden of being a key personal. Needing my time for “my own stuff”.

“In the weeds” question for those of you with soft salaries. When would you agree to be a co-I at the 5% level on a grant, and when won’t you?

There’s a group in penn medicine called pennDnA that has nothing to do with genomics. So confusing.

Grateful to have worked with @kewesterman on this review on mechanisms for GxE interactions. Check it out!
@tamar_sofer at lunch: "Do gene-environment interactions really exist?" A year later, we've collected our thoughts on mechanisms that produce a detectable GxE and when we might care: https://t.co/0kxvsbcGax Compliments/criticisms/personal attacks welcome!

I'm very proud of this paper and the team of wonderful colleagues who worked on it. Thank you @NoraFranceschi2 for your leadership! Admixture mapping coupled with omics data will undoubtedly help bridge the gap in genomic medicine capacity in Latinos.
