New pub at @The_JOP with @zhaoliresearch. We started this project in 2020, so it's been six calendar years in the making. The paper feels like an old friend who stood by my side through the days. Will post a summary soon. Thanks to awesome coauthor Zhao. https://t.co/KEXgKxDO5q

Glad this paper with @guido_imbens is out in the JEP. The LaLonde paper has had a big impact on my academic journey and continues to teach us about the challenges and possibilities of conducting credible inference using nonexperimental data. https://t.co/XqSsjvYYwU Many thanks

New paper: LLMs are increasingly used to label data in political science. But how reliable are these annotations, and what are the consequences for scientific findings? What are best practices? Some new findings from a large empirical evaluation. Paper: https://t.co/F8FlrsLbzM

Just published in PNAS (@PNASNews) : “Electing amateur politicians reduces cross-party collaboration” We show that districts electing first-time members of the U.S. House experience substantial declines in bipartisan representation in the subsequent Congress. 🧵1/4

True. Neither Democrats nor Republicans grasp how needlessly difficult the current legal process is even for the supposedly simplest, uncontested case of spousal immigration. Once people learn it takes years and thousands of dollars, they’re far more open to easing the process.

Americans would be slightly more pro-immigration if they knew how hard it is to come here legally.

Think lobbying and campaign contributions are the key to how companies navigate American politics? Wrong. Corporate policy teams are where the real action is! Our new paper offers the first ever systematic, quantitative study of corporate policy teams, based on LinkedIn data on

How common are “survey professionals” - people who take dozens of online surveys for pay - across online panels, and do they harm data quality? Our paper, first view at @polanalysis, tackles this question using browsing data from three U.S. samples (Facebook, YouGov, Lucid):

U.S. political scientists, are any of your depts *not* admitting new PhD students this year (esp. for international applicants)? I'm gathering info to help students know where to reconsider applying. Applications are not cheap and they're despairing. Appreciate any details.

The H-1B visa executive order just nuked university hiring. No university will hire a new faculty member from abroad if the fee is $100,000.

This new FAQ from the White House makes it clear the $100k fee does apply to cap-exempt organizations. That includes national labs and other government R&D, nonprofit research orgs, and research universities. Big threat to US scientific leadership. https://t.co/5eE5yoGYW3

One of the best antitrust papers now in the QJE: Nearly half of US federal judges attended a crash course in economics at the Manne Institute. This training had lasting effects: judges used more econ language, sided against regulators more often, and imposed harsher sentences.
