Think about it, the more time you spend with someone, the more you find out about them. What if it’s not the fairy tale you envisioned? Marriage is about peeling away the layers of a person, revealing the raw individual underneath. Every relationship has an origin story.

When you are building with someone, the foundation impacts the structure. Secrecy is a breeding ground for regret. For a relationship to know where it’s going, it helps to know where it’s been.

A relationship doesn’t have to be perfect, but it must be honest. The truth doesn’t care about love, so sometimes the truth hurts. Yet, honesty is the backbone that supports all the other elements of companionship; a love without honesty is crippled.

Love doesn’t flourish in muddled emotions; in polluted water, nothing can thrive. It’s important to empty the glass regularly and refill it with compassion and empathy.
