Most people who half pay attention to my opinions on Star Trek know I'm not a fan of Lower Decks. But, if you're upset about a character in the new episode wearing a hijab, take a moment to reflect on two things: 1) Representation matters, and 2) You can go fuck yourself.

@steve_shives If people don't like a hijab wait till they learn about Deep Space Nine

@steve_shives This show was never friendly to the right wing to begin with. Nor should it be.

@steve_shives I haven’t seen it, so I may be off the mark, but did the show even establish the character in question was religious? It’s not a problem if she is, but there’s this thing called cultural traditions.

@steve_shives You are one of my favorite people who comment on Trek, not because I always agree with how you see shows, but you get that Trek is for everyone (except maybe small minded bigots, though they should watch too)

@steve_shives I just started watching yesterday. So far, I'm not into it but I will give it a bit more of a chance. I hope there is another season of The Orville.

@steve_shives This is partly why I want a trans lesbian Muslim in a hijab at the helm of the ship. Right up and front where she can't be missed or ignored. Like, atheism is the norm for humans in Trek but it's never been the only thing.

@steve_shives It's not even the first time they appeared, is it? Wasn't the same person in the very first episode of that show? Also someone wearing a turban that most likely signifies they are Sikh. So the "outrage" is like 3 ... 4 years late? Some people ...

@steve_shives It's a disgrace really. I read a comment saying "Gene Roddenberry would be spinning in grave". Say what you want about Gene, but he was ALL about inclusiveness. He'd be more annoyed that Star Trek fandom included these sorts of people.

@steve_shives There have been characters in religious headwear since LITERALLY the very first episode of the show. If you can’t handle it, there are plenty of other episodes for you.

@steve_shives I wonder if those people also complained about Worf wearing a Klingon sash on his uniform.

@steve_shives There are way more things to complain with Lower Decks than someone wearing a hijab like the crappy joke telling, excessive fan service or the annoying main characters.

@steve_shives I think we should lower the temp. If you disapprove, fine. If you like it, good. Just have FUN talking Trek even if we disagree. If it gets hot, I just set phasers to ignore and beam out. I would tho point out, Worf had that sash thing.

@steve_shives (1/2) Anyone remember waaaaaay back in the day where in The Motion Picture during the big "briefing of the crew" (watching the space station get taken out by V'Ger) there was one (or two?) Native American Starfleet crew member(s) on the Enterprise, & they had....

@steve_shives In a Universe where God is just hanging out, actual omnipotent beings are freaky chaos gods and self centered wormhole aliens are deities for an entire species, there is no problem in people believing in Allah
