Comics feeling the need to say "I promise not to ambush marginalized people in my audience with surprise guests who will denigrate them for everyone else's amusement" doesn't say much for the current state of stand-up comedy, does it? Good on Tim Heidecker, though.

That world is insular to a fault. There is a certain point where I get it, but Chappelle isn't telling jokes anymore and it's a thing you can track well before we started using it as material. If Mulaney can't look at the state of the world and say "Maybe not", then that sucks.

Yeah, it's sad it has to be pointed out, but I'm glad he's someone who will. My family just named a pair of kittens Tim and Eric, we have a lot riding on them not being awful (the men, not the cats)

you have to be able to joke about anything and anyone or you can't joke about anything. that said, there's a fine line between comedy and just being mean.
