Sorry, I'm still stuck on the TERF I just unfriended. I've just gotta get this out, so if you're tired of hearing about this, go ahead and stop reading. But here's what really pisses me off:

The person I unfriended was complaining about how a women's shelter near her was now, according to her, no longer a women's shelter because it was inclusive to trans women. She said it was wrong to allow "males" to invade women-only spaces.

And that's really dehumanizing and disrespectful to trans women, but what struck me for the first time reading that post was how fucking dishonest it is, as well.

Only that's not what she meant. She wasn't complaining about cis men being allowed in a women's shelter. She was complaining about trans women being allowed in a women's shelter. But she never explicitly said that, she only spoke in fucking TERF code.

If you're going to vilify trans people (and ABUSED trans people in need of shelter at that), at least have the fucking courage to do it openly. Why try to disguise what you're really talking about if you're sure you're on the side of righteousness, you fucking coward?

@steve_shives What difference does it make to raped women who need to heal away from males what gender that male identifies as? None. There are hundreds of genders. Trans is just one of them. None of them change your sex, which is the thing that’s really important in a RAPE.

@steve_shives You have me wondering why there should be gender exclusion at all. Why should a cis male have fewer shelter opportunities than a biologically male trans female if they are both abuse victims? Why not "battered persons" shelters? Really, tho, why not?

@steve_shives 80% of transwomen keep their penis. For all intents and purposes, they're no different to any other man, accept they call themselves transwomen. Many are simply straight men with a fetish.

@steve_shives And they would be right. If you read this document, you will see that (faulty under law) advice from LGBT youth in Scotland tell shelters they must accept male people on their word alone. The premise here (laughable) is that abusive men never lie.

@steve_shives Er no they might reasonably suppose that men were not allowed in a women only shelter. Trans women are, in fact, men.

@steve_shives How would the shelter's staff distinguish between men and transwomen, to bar the former and admit the latter? What test could be applied, given that 85% of transwomen retain their male genitalia? Any man could claim to be a transwoman to gain admittance and harm the women inside.

@steve_shives This person would be able to stay at the women-only shelter. Women wouldn’t be allowed to say no, “passing” isn’t req’d. So women MUST feel completely comfortable with this person but can be justifiably outraged if a “cis” man wanted to stay at the shelter...that makes no sense.
