ChatGPT produced a near-perfect letter in less time than I did in writing the prompt. I was stunned not by ChatGPT (I already played with it), but by the weight that I felt lifted off my shoulders. Maybe I could teach my mom to use ChatGPT? Maybe it doesn't have to be this hard?.

Anyway, my mom asked me to write a letter this week. I've been dragging my feet on it for days (see above re: anxiety). Then I thought - why not ask ChatGPT to do it?.

It's hard to see your parents so vulnerable. Last time I visited, they had to find a plumber – I felt such deep anxiety. In my perfect English, I could solve it ASAP, I could get the better deal. But there's only so much I can do. I can't be there for them all the time.

From customer service reps to landlords, I’ve heard people speak down to my parents, not honor their asks, or get frustrated that my parents aren’t explaining themselves in perfect English. Or just plainly be rude and dismissive.
