A PSA: use security keys wherever they are supported. Esp for your email, which can be used to recover other accounts. More so if you are a risk of targeted attacks. They won't solve all your problems but it is hygiene for security folks in 2022.

It's common for family to want to access a deceased loved one's Google account. Sometimes the legal stuff is hairy and it may not go down like the family wants. It just sucks. Set up Inactive Account Manager; think of it like a beneficiary for your Gmail

State of Account Recovery in parts of the web. We can do better.
Called a help desk to get an account unlocked after my password had expired & I didn’t answer the security questions correctly. They asked my name & then gave me a new password over the phone. No other questions. Only my name. Just wanted to say this kind of thing still happens.
