You may park in your own driveway as long as no portion of the vehicle extends over the sidewalk. Vehicles that cross over the sidewalk are subject to citation. What is the street location so we can pass along your feedback to parking enforcement staff.
The Bus Rapid Transit corridor on Van Ness will shorten travel times by about a third & improve 49 Van Ness/Mission reliability along the entire line. These beautiful red transit lanes will ease major traffic congestion.

The operator reported the incident last night and we've been working with
@SFPD
to fully investigate the matter. We've shared surveillance video from the train with PD as part of that investigation.
HeadsUp: Earlier today a federal judge struck down the mask mandate for airplanes and public transit. As this issue makes its way through our legal process, the federal policy remains in place. For the time being, as we wait to learn more, masks remain required on

Last fall, we posted No Turn On Red signs at over 50 intersections in the Tenderloin to study how they can make streets safer to cross. In SF, 20% of cyclist and pedestrian injury crashes involve drivers turning at signalized intersections. ( 🧵)
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency today announced the opening schedule for the highly anticipated Central Subway project. Starting November 19th, the Central Subway will open with dedicated shuttle service on weekends between

Today at noon, we will pause our work for eight minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd. This symbolic action reflects the SFMTA’s efforts to address systemic racism as a part of our day-to-day work at the agency.
We want to offer a heartfelt thank you to

San Francisco 👋 Meet your new Director of Transportation, Jeffrey Tumlin. With 25 years of experience serving cities around the world, Jeff will bring his world-class expertise to the SFMTA.
In response to last week's tragedy at 4th & King, we have reduced the two right turn lanes from 4th Street onto King Street to a single lane. This slows traffic and reduces the conflict between turning cars and people in the crosswalk.
In light of the recent tragedy on Friday, SFMTA crews finished installing protected bike lanes on Howard between 5th and 6th streets—with more long-term improvements on the way.
🧵We’re excited to announce that starting Jan. 7 the new
#CentralSubway
will provide

customers a direct connection between Chinatown and Visitacion Valley (including the Bayview and Union Square) seven-days-a-week!
@davidjacoby
The manner of parking as shown in the pictures has been and continues to be subject to a citation. I am not in a position to speak on why citations were not issued previously. There has been no change to policy:
Notice something different on your way to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market this morning? Our crews have been out this week installing the new section of two-way bike lane on the Embarcadero!
Tomorrow, 6/9, at noon we will pause Muni service for eight minutes and 46 seconds to honor and reflect on the life of George Floyd and the cause of his death. Muni operators will pull over once safe to do so, and open all doors to allow passengers to either partake in the (1/)
(1) New protected corner at 5th and Howard streets! The concrete curb + speed bumps calm turning traffic and create a safer, separated crossing for southbound cyclists on 5th and people in the crosswalk.
We appreciate our riders and are so thankful to our staff. We hope you join us today at noon for eight minute and 46 seconds to reflect on Mr. Floyd’s life, and the work ahead of us to make a more accessible and equitable system.
Fresh green paint on Polk Street! The new protected bikeway between Grove and Hayes— complete with posts—is finished and already filled with people on wheels.
Moving SF - We're bringing back the long-awaited F Market & Wharves historic streetcars on Saturday, May 15, between Fisherman’s Wharf and Castro and Market streets seven days a week!
We are heartbroken for our South Bay colleagues

and our deepest condolences go out to the entire VTA community.
Our thoughts are with

riders starting April 1, 2022!
We have closed Golden Gate Avenue to daytime traffic in the Tenderloin, providing important street space to support community services during the pandemic. We appreciate your important work and our partnership

ATTN: We will temporarily suspend enforcement on: residential permits, 72-hour limit and towing, commuter shuttles, peak hour tow-away and other towing not related to safety or access.
Construction is beginning this week to convert the southbound bike lane on Polk Street between Grove and Hayes into a fully protected bikeway, and to add more safety features at the intersection, including painted safety zones.
We’re thrilled to announce our proposed Phase 3
#SlowStreets
which will create a true network that allows many San Franciscans to access essential services and jobs w/o being reliant on either a car or

.
REMINDER: Due to the poor air quality conditions, all Muni service will be free today (11/16). Passengers do not need to pay cash, scan Clipper Cards, nor use Muni Mobile when boarding today.
Heads Up: We’re now conducting testing along the Van Ness Avenue red transit lanes. To do so, the lanes must be clear of any vehicles. This includes no parking in the lanes. The testing is occurring so that we can welcome you aboard for travel on the new BRT this coming spring.
Check out the new delineators and signs we're piloting on some of our Slow Street corridors! Big thanks to our sign shop for all the hard work

2. We’ll advance our agency-wide implicit bias training and other equity trainings that provide us with personal/professional tools to address the agency’s and our own bias to ensure that all are heard and included in our future.
We’re partnering with
@SFBART
to expand the Elevator Attendant Program to Montgomery & Embarcadero stations 👏🏽Data shows that unwanted behaviors on elevators have dropped to nearly zero with friendly attendants in place!
The SFMTA maintains the greenest fleet in North America. Our first battery electric bus is currently undergoing testing at New Flyer’s St. Cloud plant. See you in May ✌️
🥳Thank you to everyone who got out and voted in this election. Prop L received the support of more than 2/3 of San Francisco voters. Investing in our transportation system continues to be a key priority for our city.
Today, along with

#MuniMetro
is open for service! We completed crucial maintenance work that will result in more reliable & smoother service. We added WiFi in stations & cellular antennas in tunnels. SF is making a comeback!
#SFMuni
This is very disappointing, and it’s a blow to our efforts to maintain Muni service after federal pandemic relief funds run out next year. But we’re going to keep fighting for the hundreds of thousands of people who rely on Muni every single day. We can’t afford to lose transit.
I introduced SB 532 — temporary bridge toll increase — to avoid devastating transit service cuts.
Today I’m joined by
@AsmLoriDWilson
in announcing a pause on SB 532 to allow further dialogue among Bay Area legislators & stakeholders about how to save Bay Area transit systems.🧵
Moving SF - No experience is more uniquely San Francisco than a ride on a cable car. We’re excited to announce that we have a timeline to phase in cable car service, as well as bring back service on our historic F Line fleet.
TAKE A LOOK! We received our first Battery-Electric Bus, a big step towards a zero-emission motor coach fleet. Over the next few months, we will be testing these out on some of our most challenging lines. For more info please check out our project page.
Exciting changes are coming to Shotwell Slow Street! We are out here installing *brand new* materials along the corridor to make it a safer space to walk and bike. Shotwell is one of our first Slow Streets to be extended beyond the pandemic, so it’s time for some upgrades. (1)

here wearing a new coat of red paint. Take our vintage streetcars Sundays & Mondays thru October & see a boat tram at Muni Heritage Weekend 9/23 & 9/24!
We also found that limiting turns on red keeps crosswalks clearer! The number of cars creeping into crosswalks on red signals dropped by over 70%—which improves visibility and safety for people and cyclists trying to cross.
While safety continues to be our first priority, we cannot move forward without reflecting on our agency’s history, current practices around race, and how our agency can heal and specifically support black and brown communities.

We’re grateful that over 65% of voters supported Proposition A, the Muni Reliability and Street Safety Bond Measure. It’s clear that an overwhelming majority of San Franciscans support investing in public transportation.
As we prepare for this moment of reflection, Muni operators will stop in observance when it's safe to do so. This memorial was suggested by one of our transportation controllers. We’re proud of our staff & their commitment to better serving the communities that need us most.
Our crews have begun installation of roadway delineators on Page Street, this is a new treatment the Slow Streets program is testing. These delineators are intended to reduce maintenance and replacement costs of the bulkier barricades and signs.

When we forwarded your comments to Parking Enforcement staff, they noted that section of the Vehicle Code and that the citations in your area are simply a part of a recent effort to better address the issue of sidewalk parking citywide.
