Someone might be asking us to do something seemingly straightforward, while our brains make it into something much more complex and nuanced.
We ask questions to untangle our thoughts. Not to challenge the other person.
@sensorystories_
"Why are you constantly asking questions?"
"Your explanations lack the detail that I need to fully comprehend the situation. Maybe next time don't speak in such vague terms and expect me to be on the same page. That's it."

Not diagnosed autistic, but I have a lifetime of this experience. I’m not challenging you, I just want to understand! It’s so disheartening to be confronted angrily when you just want clarity. Eventually, you shut down. 😔

Not diagnosed yet (probably won't because what money and I refuse to acknowledge self-dxng), but I AM ADHD diagnosed and OH BOY DO I FEEL THIS
My ex did this to me ALL THE TIME and made me feel like crap
@sensorystories_
I hate it so much when teachers (and people in general) don't give you a straight answer when you ask a question. Half of the time I know what the answer is, but I need to check anyway. Just tell me instead of laughing and saying "make an educated guess."

My mom gets frustrated with this one. She knows I don't mean to, but she says it feels like I'm interrogating her or arguing with her when I'm just trying to make sure I understand and that she has considered every possibility before I move forward.
@sensorystories_
This !
I'm always seen as challenging someone when I want clarification so no mistakes or misunderstanding occurs.
That or I want to understand why a certain rule was implemented, to understand it better. I'm seen as defiant, especially if I think it's a stupid rule w/ no logic
@sensorystories_
@SlynxintoShadow
if you explain to me the How and Why to the What i get it so much better
i was failing math until a friend broke algebra down for me and explained not just how the formula but why
@sensorystories_
Neurotypical people will act like this even when it makes perfect sense to ask for clarification
"get me a screwdriver"
"OK, do you want a flat head or Philips head"
"WHY DO YOU HAVE AN ATTITUDE WITH ME IT DOESN'T MATTER"
@sensorystories_
But if you try to whack us over the head with your purported authority, you'll smack face first into the autistic disregard of hierarchy.
A role doesn't change a person's worth. They are respectable insofar as they perform it well and respect those around them also.

My coworker gets so frustrated when I ask him questions that he has blown up on me over spreadsheets multiple times😅 I think he doesn't like when I question his instructions, but his instructions are almost always unclear/unnecessary. I hate working with him tbh
