Along with Donny Hathaway's 1972 album, the 1973 album Live at Carnegie Hall by Bill Withers may be my favourite 1970s' live soul album. The closing 13 minute-plus closing cut of "Harlem/Cold Baloney" is killer.

R&B singer-songwriter and musician Timmy Thomas died at age 77 in 2022. His best known hit, 1972's "Why Can't We Live Together", was minimalist soul at its best: recorded in mono w/ sparse production and organ & drum machine backing.
