We have agreed in principle to ask #HistoricEngland to consider upgrading #HulmeHippodrome from Grade II (two) to Grade II* (two star). We will be assembling the case for an upgrade and consulting more widely before making our formal and detailed application.

#SaveHulmeHip We are developing our Business Plan using it to demonstrate that our community has a credible alternative to yet another block of apartments for a quick profit. Our plan will save the #HulmeHippodrome as a cultural and civic asset for #Hulme.

The court hearing was in January this year and the council succeeded in resisting the appeal, except that the Deputy District Judge said that HHM20 didn’t have to fix the roof under section 215 powers. Other powers exist that can be used to fix roofs.

The company which received the #HulmeHipp from the property developer who bought it – HHM20 Ltd – appealed against notice, meaning the notice was paused, awaiting a court date. (1)

A quick recap: in February last year Manchester Council issued legal notice for owners of the Hipp to make improvements to the exterior of building – a section 215 notice – which we support in full. (1)

Some graffiti removed, now fix the roof! Owners HHM20 had until 12 July to remove graffiti, plus a list of other works. HHM20 later asked council to be extended to 15 Aug & the work was underway on 16 Aug. It is clear to us that it is doing the least possible, and at last moment.
