I made this graph in August and I don't think it went viral enough at the time.
There are HUGE delays and a vast backlog in the asylum system. But application numbers are steady.
These delays wreck lives.
New government stats, published y’day, show that the number of people applying for asylum has stayed more or less the same.
But the number of people waiting 6+ months for a decision on their claim has skyrocketed.

That's right - but Priti Patel is trying to 'deter' asylum seekers making their own journeys here, by prosecuting them, dismissing their claims + sending them to other countries, or if they do manage to get asylum here, they won't have full refugee rights

The UK has such a "short memory".
The good migrants are always the ones who arrived a generation ago - the ones we welcomed with open arms (remember!?) - whereas these ones arriving today, *these ones*, [gestures sweepingly] these ones are different.
I reported on the arrival of bewildered, fearful Kenyan & Ugandan Asians who were allowed in by the UK when their own countries threw them out. They were greeted at the airport by a small crowd holding signs reading ‘We don’t want you’ & ‘Go home.’ Nothing new about inhumanity.
