Hey
@SEGA
, since the PS3 store is shutting down, would you consider releasing Daytona USA on the Switch? Many of us still love that game.
Retweet if you agree...
Hey
@analogue
, since you're hyping this a year in advance, how about just opening pre-orders for a week and skip the "limited quantity" bullshit? I know your ego loves watching the commotion when you sell out, but maybe let PCE / TG-16 fans actually buy one this time?
I just tested the latest revision of
@krikzz
RGB Blaster and it works great: Zero lag, HD Retrovision + RGB SCART compatible and simply plug and play with any top-loading NES/Famicom.
More info and links here:
Recently, some people have tried to publicly shame me for "flexing" the CRT's in my office. To them, I'd like to politely say: There's a fireplace in here too🖕
Holy shit.
@flxel
just dropped the ODE GOAT.
Sega CD
CDi
Saturn
Dreamcast
Playstation
...with more to come. Check out the post for pre-order links and more info:
An FPGA dev just posted a poll on their Patreon account, asking if we thought they should port their cores to the
@analogue
pocket. While I'm always learning and evolving my opinions, after almost 20 years of being in hardware dev, my opinion is split, but very strong...
Fuck it, I'm so sick of letting people bully me (& others), just to try and avoid drama.
This is the same dirtbag who stole my footage with no credit and misrepresented what I said. Now he's blaming Mike because
@Wix
failed miserably.
Fuck you Jared. You're not a good person.
There's literally nothing that could have been done?!?! Dawg migrate your site to something that can handle the bandwidth necessary to run your business and try using a host that DOESN'T throttle traffic from what I assume would be one of, if not your largest fucking market!
Here's some insanely good news for RT5x fans -
@retrotink2
has just added three new scanline options that are by FAR the closest to the look of a real CRT I've ever seen!!! Here's a really detailed post, which should have all the info you need:
Last night,
@retrotink2
officially revealed details of the RT4K. I'm so excited to finally be able to talk about my experience with it these past few months! LOTS more details to come, but here's a primer with Mike's post linked as well:
Tons of mixed emotions, as I get the final load of stuff out of my NYC apartment. That right corner is where I shot all the weekly videos!
I have some footage from about a month ago. Would anyone want to see a room/apt tour of what it was like to live/work here, or is that dumb?
I recently did an interview with one of the last remaining manufacturers of CRT's. It was an interesting conversation and I'm very grateful for Kurt's time!
Available as a video and everywhere audio podcasts are found:
Looks like
@Voultar
may have discovered a way to unbrick Wii U's, using
@GaryOderNichts
software & a RPiPico. It's non-evasive and absolutely worth the $10 it'll cost to try if you have a bricked console! More info in the post:
RetroTINK-5X Pro goes live Saturday May 1st, 9AM PST:
Orders will begin to ship same day. Limit one per customer.
Price is $275 for this production batch, and increases to $300 for future runs due to the rising cost of parts.
Respectfully, I don’t understand the point.
Why waste time making something that already exists?
How about tackle a new product that doesn’t exist yet?
A PS2 ODE that plays PS1&2 games would solve so many issues that HDL introduces. Heck, even a CDi ODE would be more interesting.
Looks like
@retrotink2
just dropped a big update for the RT4K! If you use your TINK to capture VHS, this COMPLETELY FREE firmware update will be a MASSIVE help.
...oh and there's some video game enhancements too ;p Links and examples in the post:
Do you have a copy of Windwaker, Twilight Princess, or Paper Mario? If so, a cheap memory card & an SD reader can now give you easy access to GameCube homebrew with NO MOD REQUIRED:
Here's a video that answers the question:
"How come you shouldn't connect your retro consoles directly into a flat-panel's analog inputs?"
...plus shows both good and bad solutions. Hope you like it!:
Looks like
@krikzz
just fixed EEPROM game support for EverDrive GBA +
@analogue
Pocket. As always, thanks VERY much to Krikzz for continuing to support his products, long after they're released:
Holy crap, what a weekend for PS2 fans...there's now a new MemCard Pro that's compatible with both the PS1 AND the PS2!!!
Pre-orders open now, links in the description:
Yesterday, I beat the arcade version of Out Run, for the first time in my life. I'm so grateful that I got to share that moment with everyone watching live. Here's the money shot; Turn the volume down, cause I get loud! The full run is here on Facebook:
A few days ago,
@St1ka
posted a video about HD packs for retro games, that you can use with emulators.
I'm looking forward to talking about this in next week's Roundup, as well as discussing it in the comments...so give it a watch & join the conversation:
Here's the Warrior 64 Review (and repair). It's a neat case, with some of the most poorly designed video circuits I've ever seen.
Video and full backstory available here:
Finally had a chance to try this, with a GBA rom that was patched with the Wii U Virtual Console version. Very weird and fun to see SMW & SMB2 mechanics in SMB3!
Did you know the GBA version of SMB 3 (Mario Advance 4) had hidden levels and features only accessible by the eReader? I didn't...but
@SuperZvesda
's got us covered! Check this out:
Here’s an example of what 2ms of lag looks like - The monitor on the right is receiving the signal just after the monitor on the left and the CRT starts drawing the image slightly after.
2ms is so fast, you should just think of it as ZERO, but I really enjoyed this visual queue.
USB-GDROM USERS BEWARE: Your firmware will eventually "expire". That means technically you’re not “purchasing a product”, you’re “renting” it for the duration of time mnemo supports the firmware:
A sad day is coming very soon, the 7th of February 2023 may be the last day that
#DaytonaUSA
is officially on sale for any platform as it is being removed from the Xbox 360 store with several other games. It isn't on the Xbox One/Series store but can be bought on the link below
I'm sick of losers like this constantly coming at me. I don't have the budget to test every option!!! If I test something expensive, it's cause it's all I had access to. And I try SO HARD to recommend the most affordable options every time. What else can I do to prove that???
Well, it's taken ten years, but I've finally broke down and got one.
LOL, now I won't have to use that SAME b-roll shot I took last year every time I mention it in a video!
There's now a notification list open for the upcoming Flippy Drive. Want to see it in action!? Tito just released a video on it as well.
Links and more info in the post. I'm really excited for this one!
Cousin Scott found a PVM-1344Q on the side of the road with the cord cut.
@Cruzlink2
spliced in a new power cord to test it and it works perfect!
I'll eventually open it up and probably wire jack instead of a dangling cable, but this turned out to be an awesome curbside special!
The MiSTer team is doing absolutely amazing things. If you're able to, please consider supporting them on Patreon! I'm so excited to see stuff like this come to life:
Hey
@8BitDo
, I've been covering & promoting your products for years...& own quite a few that I praise.
But your tweet & marketing is misleading: There's no such thing as a "lag-free" wireless setup. You can get low lag, but never zero. Please correct.
Introducing 8BitDo Retro Receiver for PS. Play PS1 and PS2 with your favorite controller. Compatible with Xbox One, Series, and Elite controllers, DualShock4, DualSense, Wii U Pro, Switch Pro controllers, and more. Plug-and-play, lag-free.
Get yours now:
I'm about to swap around some monitors from my CRT wall, so I figured I'd snap a pic in its current form.
Some are getting repaired, others traded...and some I was just holding onto for a friend and are returning. I hope to see a lot of unique displays on here as time goes on...
PSA:
- If you've spread hate about me, you're not welcome as a contributor.
- If you've doxxed ANYONE, I'll never even acknowledge you exist.
- If you side with these people, you're putting others in danger as well....cause if they can do it to me, they can do it to YOU.
Looks like
@retrotink2
recently released firmware version 3.0 for the RT5x, making it the best upscaler AND downscaler currently available!
More info in the main post:
PSA: Stay away from fake/3rd party N64 Expansion Pak's! I thought my Everdrive 64 from
@krikzz
was having problems, but it turns out I just had a crappy expansion pak!
Always use the official Nintendo one...or just the standard jumper pak! More info in an upcoming video.
The Computer History Archives Project just posted some awesome videos showing Sony CRT's being manufactured. Hey
@TechConnectify
, I think you'd enjoy these!:
I just posted a video that should help people get started with the OSSC, as well as work on some more advanced stuff like updating the firmware and loading custom profiles:
Looks like
@retrotink2
is now using UK, German and Switzerland distributors for RetroTINK 5x and 2x Pro products. Really great to see these made easier for people to get worldwide! Links are in this post:
The RetroTINK 4K sold out in under a half hour!
While it was frustrating to see so many people have checkout issues, I'm happy for Mike.
Also, is now hosting the official RT4K wiki with TONS of info on it - Definitely have a look:
...and I'm already muting this conversation. I know good people will read it, but I expect the responses to almost immediately be filled with Analogue trolls saying I'm biased and MiSTer trolls accusing me of being a traitor. Blind tribalism is the dumbest shit on the planet...
The company
@kantoaudio
now has a line of self-powered speakers, made especially for US: Fully magnetically-shielded and safe for use with all CRT's. Check out the video for all the details, plus links!:
Anyone wonder why I keep rambling about scaling 240p or 480i games to 1080p5x?
This video explains why and is relevant to OSSC, GBS-C, MiSTer, PS1 Digital, Framemeister, CPSHDMI and pretty much all future scalers, as well as scaling direct 240p captures.
This is why so many good people have left the scene. They didn't just clone the board, they boasted about it here and insulted the creator.
Also, check their eBay store - They profit from the open source work of others (fine), but then still steal!?:
I’ve been sick for about two months, getting progressively worse. The doc can’t figure out what’s wrong, so they sent me home with a bunch of prescriptions & told me to rest. I’m gonna put videos on hold for at least a few days. Really sorry for people waiting on the RAD2x, SNES!
Here's a video on how to use scalers to make a VGA CRT monitor look like a PVM/BVM with classic consoles! This video focused on original hardware, but the same principal works with MiSTer and the Analogue consoles (when set to 480p with scanlines on):
Here's a video that teaches people how to use a Time Sleuth to test scaler lag, then tests some popular retro gaming scalers. You might be surprised at some of the results!
The Behar Bros just launched TWO new versions of the Xedusa: Another with HDMI and one with VGA for people with CRT VGA monitors. Dual-output, analog + digital audio.
Now THIS is what value for your money looks like. And they're $70.
I recently interviewed
@enginetankard
, creator of an open source CRT chassis that's currently in-progress. If you're a fan of CRT's, definitely check this one out!:
I finally had time to check out
@AzumFpg
's 2-player GB & GBA MiSTer cores. I'm really impressed!
Check out the demo, then all the info you'll need is in the main post:
I just released a video on
#YouTube
that shows you how to use a
#vcr
to connect an RF-only
#retrogaming
console to a
#RetroTINK
, or
#SonyBVM
without composite video inputs.
This video also nerds out pretty hardcore for the experts too :)
Full video here:
I've been watching the 1981 "TV cut" of The Godfather via a Betamax player & D32. It's been incredible: The best cut I've seen of the film, on the greatest CRT ever. Every night's felt like a "once in a lifetime" moment.
Gonna finish it on the RT4K/OLED & see the difference :)
Here's a prototype of a Game Gear to Master System cartridge adapter...something I always thought cwas impossible! I'll have lots to say in tomorrow's podcast about this...
...but for now, can anyone help source cartridge connectors in bulk? More info:
Woah,
@AzumFpg
just got retail games booting on the PS1 MiSTer core!! There's still a long way to go for a public release, but check out the post for more info - And don't forget to please support the MiSTer team for their work!
Most people won't read more than the title, but there's just no way to fairly explain all sides without telling the whole story.
I'd love to hear thoughts from
@Hyperkin
/
@cgallizzi
as well as
@LimitedRunGames
/
@LimitedRunJosh
; You're always a welcome guest.
I know I get a bit OCD when cleaning new (used) controllers, but I really think it’s worth it. This took about a half hour and it feels like a brand new controller!
