Our position is not in opposition to free speech, it is in opposition to a privately owned company promoting hate speech and disinformation for profit. While we are stepping away from Twitter, our fight to protect and preserve democracy continues. 7/8

A safe haven for hate is a direct threat to our democracy. So beginning today, we are removing ourselves from Twitter. We refuse to remain in a space where hateful, racist rhetoric is tolerated, embraced and promoted by management. 6/8

History has repeatedly shown that the normalization of hate speech leads directly to violence, especially for Black, Brown and Jewish communities. 5/8

Using violent, hateful language toward any person in any conversation or capacity is incompatible with our values. As an organization, we refuse to support a company that perpetuates and normalizes this. 4/8

Since @elonmusk acquired this platform, hate speech has surged dramatically, Donald Trump’s hate-filled account has been reinstated, and users, including Musk, are posting or elevating racial slurs and antisemitic tropes, and attacking LGBTQIA+ users in record numbers. 3/8

Every day, hate speech, racism, and antisemitism are used online to divide us based on our skin color, our religion, where we live, and who we love. This truth has never been more apparent than on Twitter. 2/8

With this Congressional majority (51 seats thanks to tonight’s win!) we are in the best position in years to enact policies that combat the efforts of MAGA extremists & protect our democracy for all Americans. Here at Public Wise, we remain committed to that fight.
