Proud of PSTA member and @LexingtonOne teacher Jessica Owens for representing the teaching profession!
When we raise teacher pay, we raise the quality of education. Rocky Creek Elementary teacher Jessica Owens saw firsthand how higher salaries attract more great educators to the classroom. Strong schools start with talented teachers, and raising teacher pay makes that possible.

This year, the number of vacant teaching positions in SC declined for the first time this decade. It is imperative to keep that momentum going.
Educating our children is our most important duty. In the last 8 years, we’ve raised minimum starting teacher salaries by 56% – placing us higher than North Carolina and Georgia. But we can’t stop now. Let’s raise it to $50,000 this year – not next. Our future depends on it.
