Some think we can 'get away' with just one shot of mRNA vaccine, and immunize more people quickly. Pfizer vax efficacy against COVID-19 after one shot was 52%. You really want to have HALF of vaccinated people susceptible to #Covid_19 ? Trust Science, not scientists.

@profvrr Aren't they saying that we should immunize more now and trust that more vaccine will be available in 3 weeks? Instead of reserving vaccine now which gets less people started?

@profvrr So to clarify that means 48% of folks who got infected in the week or two after 1rst dose got disease (meaning what mild symptoms)? Did they PCR test people at vaccination so a before/after relationship between vaccination/infection could be established?

@profvrr No one is saying not to get the 2nd dose eventually. But let's give 1 dose to maximum people, while supplies are limited, to slow the pandemic. Then give 2nd dose as supplies become available. And efficacy after 14 days (after immune response) is likely higher than 52%.

@profvrr They had to isolate the effect of mask from their efficacy measurement. It would be more convincing if this study would be done on unmasked people.

@profvrr @Napaaqtuk Have to be very careful with this number. It relates to the fact that immunity takes 1-2 weeks. So people who get the vaccine can get infected in that time frame. They should do trials with single dose but has to be a trial.

@profvrr Trust Common Sense and Logic, not the confused "beta-minus" laboratory experimenters who calls themselves "scientists". It is ok if people are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 after vaccination for as long as there are no hospitalizations (=natural boosting, better immunity).

@profvrr This is a mischaracterization. The data doesn’t exist and should be studied. It’s not about wanting to get away with, and 52% isn’t an accurate number. Should have a parallel one shot regimen arm studied. We need to slow the pandemic globally then give the second dose.

@profvrr Just to amplify a little, we don't even know if that 52% would hold up in a true test of a one dose regimen. Second-guessing our medical experts is just crazy talk.

@profvrr That’s comparably on par with the effectiveness of seasonal influenza vaccines, right? The ones that we receive a single dose annually?

@profvrr This tweet is an example of why you shouldn’t trust a scientist. The 52% includes the first two weeks before the vaccine β€œkicks-in”. I know you know this...which is disappointing considering your influence.
