What have I been saying for months about purported reinfections with SARS-CoV-2? There are none! RT-PCR detects pieces of RNA not infectious virus!! Tests in recovered patients found false positives, not reinfections, experts say
@profvrr
Promising (and not surprising), but has this been published in a peer-reviewed journal yet? If not, should we treat this news as likely but not yet proven? What does this mean for the CDC preferred protocol of 2 negative PCR tests 24 h apart before return to work?

Pretty much every virologist has been saying this from the start. Unfortunately it will take a lot longer to convince the general public that these +ve tests aren’t reinfections.
It doesn’t make as dramatic a headline!

Yea but the original reports were not referencing test results. People in hospitals seemingly recovered from it, and then were readmitted

Prob what they are finding in the air too. I really wonder what the value of RNA studies in the environment are for indications of viral exposure.
@profvrr
New data: Electron Microscopy of viral particles deep in the lungs of a patient doctors thought had cleared the virus.
This is a persistent virus. Not acute.
ID docs in the USA have said this for weeks. This virus lingers in protected sites.
