Thinking about juggling fitness priorities and curious how people approach their training. Health - Vanity - Mental Health - Performance 1. Mental benefits (reduced stress, greater energy, confidence, resilience). Is often priority #1. Can be accomplished through either

Unpopular opinion o' the day: Muscle mass becomes very unhealthy when it exceeds your cardiovascular system's ability to support it. This leads to: * High sympathetic tone * Increased reliance on sugar burning * Sleep problems * Increased Blood Pressure * Increases in heart &

Human progress is mind blowing. The ancients could only dream of this. I feel like Zeus flying through the skies on Pegasus (in seat 22A basic economy)

Really interesting - this seems to provide some mechanistic evidence for current aerobic exercise theory. Theory: HIT training alone fails to improve aerobic fitness beyond a certain point because we can only train mitochondrial efficiency up to a certain "ceiling." Beyond this,

@NatureComms @javi_iup Following 8 wks of training, we observe that after moderate-intensity training (MICT) markers of mito content increase, while sprint-interval training (SIT) resulted in an increased mitochondrial respiratory function despite no significant changes in markers of mito content /5

FSH-antibodies are being studied to treat osteoporosis, obesity, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in postmenopausal women (currently only in mouse studies, but still exciting) https://t.co/MTsTM308eg

TRT and HRT may improve cardiovascular health via downregulation of FSH. FSH receptors (FSHR) are densely expressed on endothelial cells and on adipose tissue cells. FSH binding to the FSHR (pic below) on endothelial cells leads to increased monocyte adhesion the vessel wall.

📋The origins of the medical licensing exam in the U.S. date back to the 19th century. Licensing exams originated as state-developed assessments. A direct line can be traced from these exams to the USMLE® program. These questions are from a Virginia licensing exam in 1920.

Russians have Bromantane, Semax, Selank Americans have amphetamines, SSRIs, benzodiazepines One group causes dependence/addiction, withdrawal, neurotoxicity. The other group helps with neuroprotection, synapse formation, long term cognitive health. 🤔

Takeaway: Try not to keep jamming high lactate-generating sessions if untrained, or just listen to the body when it asks you to slow down to do more mild-moderate intensity work. Keep exercising, you'll probably live longer and have a sharper mind.

The toxic compound identified in the study was lactate, and the toxicity came from a lack of lactate clearance. For an untrained mouse (or human) who rapidly increases activity level, the body is unable to clear lactate and through lactate toxicity may lead to neurocognitive

Data from the UK biobank shows a "J " shaped curve in terms of exercise vs all cause mortality as well as cognitive impairment (i.e. moderate activity appears protective, but high levels appear detrimental) However, studies clearly show that elite endurance athletes have lower

Does exercise cause cognitive impairment? Lactate toxicity, mitochondria, Zone 2, and "listen to your body" principle The study below is actually pretty interesting - it had a few different components 1. They took mice and made them train moderately or excessively (>450

Baking soda is interesting - increases acid-buffering capacity in some ways similar to altitude-training. Meat-eaters might benefit more than vegetarians in terms of performance boost (similar to how vegetarians benefit from creatine more than meat-eaters). Doses are high though
