China doesn't play by American rules. China & India usually stay within multilateral rules. Jaishankar says India will respond through self-reliance & India will not be passive in increasing comprehensive national power. Don't think Nehru was "passive" in accruing CNP.

South African head coach Shukri Conrad saying “We wanted India to grovel” in the press conference is a huge misstep. Grovel carries a long history of deeply offensive, racial undertones. Maybe a slip of the tongue, but a costly one.

Vested interests on both sides want to derail fast moving India-China reset. Speed at which relations are improving is pretty good so suddenly usual border issue is being raked up. Nothing new in this statement. Both sides should properly handle passport issues at consular level.

True Japanese far-right is far more dangerous for China than Western far-right. Incidentally, in the first India-Japan meeting, the new Japanese PM referred to her version of free & open Indo-Pacific but India omitted the phrase in its own readout. Good call.
