@thintobee I’m so sorry you’ve been invalidated by your therapist. That’s an all-too-common misconception. I encourage her to study up on research from *this* century. I hope you’re able to find a therapist that’s autistic-affirming, not denying.

@pot8um @fochti I long for the day where the reaction to anything/everything regarding our personal journeys is a universal "Cool, how can I help?"

@pot8um I've never really gotten the 'everyone is a little autistic' line, but I have gotten its twin, 'everyone is weird in their own way'. 🙄

@pot8um People can’t see what goes on behind the scenes. The processing. So I wonder if being more open and vulnerable in that way would help? That is also risky I understand. It’s because the exp is not visible. So people need to be told.

@pot8um It's a universal experience because neurotypicals can't grasp the fact that autistic people are people. They see us as tragic ciphers they can exploit, not people with feelings and opinions and autonomy.

@pot8um Because just like ghosts dont always know theyre dead. People that say everyones a bit Autistic... Dont know, or accept, theyre Autistic. Hence the butthurt. Im there wide eyed. "I see Autistic people". Where tho B? "Everyfuckingwhere. They dont know theyre Autistic"....

@pot8um I actually mentioned that I was autistic to one of my bosses and his daughter is autistic as well and he said he noticed a few similarities between us so he thought I might be but didn't want to outright assume.

@pot8um The more I learn about others' experiences the more I realize how lucky I am. I fully learned I'm autistic at 50 and everyone has been really positive when I tell them. I only got one "everyone is a little bit autistic" and it was from someone that is so supportive otherwise.

@pot8um I think education about what autism is would help. I didn't know I was autistic until I was 39 years old & happened to read about the traits. I grew up only knowing the clichés of autism (non-verbal, etc.).

@pot8um Sadly so true and I believe because most have a stigma belief that “autism is bad and looks this way”. I had a person say “I’m impressed, I never would’ve guessed you were autistic.” Essentially complimenting my masking skills and hiding myself. I see the beauty in our hearts.

@pot8um I told my classmate I was autistic after she asked me why I'm always angry/annoyed (I'm not) She told me not to let it hold me back

@pot8um I suspect I might be autistic? When I see a tweet like- OP: If you (insert certain behavior) then... Me: Hey, I do that! OP:...you might be autistic Me: Wait what But when I was dx w/OCD my friends rolled their eyes. So I just keep autism question to myself
