Stop pretending that you care about people’s mental health when the first thing you do is ridicule us when we describe our experiences. Imagine living your entire life not knowing why you couldn’t just Do the Thing. Everyone else seemed to know how, but why couldn’t you?

Decades of shame, guilt, self-loathing, non-existent self-esteem. Some of us are lucky enough to dig ourselves out. When we speak up about our experiences with untreated / undiagnosed conditions and your first instinct is to blame us, it speaks volumes about your character.

If you want to publicly broadcast how shitty you are, that’s on you. Speaking out of your depth on a topic that you can’t even fathom is nothing short of embarrassing. I would say do better, but I think the sun has set on your emotional maturity. In which case, get dicked.

@pot8um I sat across from two people at work talking about the terrible psych hospital I was admitted to because they knew people who saw things. They probably wouldn't listen to a person's firsthand experience of the place, but I wish I'd put in my two cents and made them uncomfortable

@pot8um Don't forget that we ALSO do things no one else seems to be able to. But because of the other issues, we assume everyone else can do that, so it's no big deal. How does everyone NOT know (*insert Special Interest factoid here*)? 😐

@pot8um Love it! You are strong and a fighter and that is beautiful ❤️ Those people are not self aware and many times are worse than the person they are criticising. Not worth the ground they walk on.

@pot8um Reminds me of my siblings talking shit about how my other sibling clearly doesn’t have ____ and then listed examples that are clear signs that they do. I wish I had said something but I just was heartbroken bc I knew they would say the same type of stuff behind my back 🥲

@pot8um In my experience the worste people to understand others are those who also suffer mental health problems. They are happy to express what they are going through and how it affects them but when you say you're finding it tough and describe what you're struggling with you get shot..

@pot8um Some people just say they support mental health because it is a phoney way to look like they actually do care. This happens a lot during some of the calendars mental heath weeks or Let’s Talk days. When those events are over, they go back to not caring at all.

@pot8um So much this. Have wanted so desperately to know at times why I couldn't just Do The Thing (other times I'm in my own old and couldn't care less). On top of that, have been told "if you're not Making It Happen™ then you're just making excuses", as if

@pot8um @AuthorADJ I feel this so hard. To be honest, I’m still digging myself out, and I still feel guilt and shame when I try and explain to someone that I’m having difficulty because of a mental illness
