@doctor_oxford @PeteUK7 @LibDemPatrick @PeterStefanovi2 @JoFroggatt @ITV As a patient who has to endanger themselves every time I go for essential healthcare I would 10,000x prefer a masked doctor who understands infection risk and harm prevention than an unmasked one who thinks they're communicating something other than that they don't care enough.

What an honour to meet the wonderful @doctor_oxford & @JoFroggatt at a special preview of @ITV ’s #Breathtaking at BAFTA tonight. It tells the heartbreaking story of NHS staff battling to save patients in the pandemic & is based on Rachel’s searing memoir. The drama airs on @ITV

@PeterStefanovi2 @doctor_oxford @JoFroggatt @ITV This is wonderful and I’m very much looking forward to #Breathtaking shifting the dial What takes my breath away, though, is people crowding into a room to watch this premier apparently with no thought to ventilation. @LibDemPatrick @PeterStefanovi2 @JoFroggatt @ITV I had no control over BAFTA’s ventilation systems, Patrick, but FFP2s were there for anyone who wanted them. My personal choice was not to wear one, in the knowledge that anyone who did want to protect themselves by masking could choose to do so. This isn’t remotely because I…

@doctor_oxford @LibDemPatrick @PeterStefanovi2 @JoFroggatt @ITV Thanks for your reply. I have long admired you but I feel a little deflated by what you said. Would this be a fair summary?: I did not want to protect myself despite the option being available and knowing how protective an FFP2 is. I know it's still a deadly & disabling disease…

@PeteUK7 @LibDemPatrick @PeterStefanovi2 @JoFroggatt @ITV No, it really wouldn't Pete. This is nothing to do with personal inconvenience at work. The cost is about the immense difficulties of communicating clearly & compassionately with patients about difficult subjects while masked. And last night was not a clinical setting.

@doctor_oxford @PeteUK7 @LibDemPatrick @PeterStefanovi2 @JoFroggatt @ITV But this situation is about using an opportunity to highlight the importance of infection control for everyone ... when the series and the book are literally about this ... it's about showing how we can work together to counter failures in Public Health, or not bother.
