My goal is to wield clothing with as much style and anger as Lena Waithe wearing a Pride flag cape and Lynda Carter wearing a tiara that says "Never forget" in Hebrew to a Catholic-themed event.
What's exhausting about all of these anti-trans articles and speeches and stand-up routines is that I am old enough to remember exactly the same things being said about gay people.
Exactly. The. Same.
When I was a teenager I asked Neil Gaiman at a signing how to be a successful writer and he put his pen down, looked me in the eye and said "Talk in your own voice."
That remains the most rewarding piece of advice I've ever been given.
I just want to point out I wrote two comics last year about trans queer women who are unabashed about their identities and both of them got nominated for GLAAD Awards:
I'm here for the "superheroes are the new folklore and myths," but only if we all understand that folklore cannot exist with a corporate master.
The only modern-day folklore is fanfiction.
Check out the amazing cover

! I am unbelievably proud of this book, and I can wait for y'all to read it!
When Galaxy came out, my wife bought a Cameo from Kevin Conroy to welcome her to DCU as Batman.
Conroy continued for many minutes, long after his Cameo obligation was over, to welcome me, personally, to the DC creator community and to talk about the impact Galaxy was going have.
Batman said Galaxy belongs here, so y'all can't tell me nothin'.
Thank you so much,

I promise I'm not going to turn this into a screencraps from Tumblr account but I love this idea of the differences between Metropolis Pride and Gotham Pride.
WHAT PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE IS SHE IS ACTUALLY DC COMICS' FIRST FEMALE SUPERHERO PREDATING WONDER WOMAN BUT BECAUSE SHE CAME FROM A COMEDY BOOK AND IS NOT DRAWN LIKE A PINUP GIRL SHE NEVER GETS ANY RESPECT AND THATS WHY MA HUNKEL WAS LITERALLY LAUGHED OUT OF THE JSA WHEN SHE
That baseless fear mongering clearly didn't work to change the tide of progress, but it was frightening effective at getting queer people killed.
I imagine this is the same goal here.
I saw someone complaining about how Uncle Owen in Star Wars is dressed like a Jedi, which got me thinking. What if the opposite is true? What if, for reasons of their own, the Jedi are dressed like farmers?
What if this is what people see when they enter the Jedi Council room?
It is important to remember that all anti-trans & anti-queer legislation comes from the same place, which is White Supremacy.
In order to exist, White Supremacy needs to treat several myths as true. The biggest is that White women need to be protected at all costs. 1/?
Today's QUESTION OF THE DAY for comics readers!
Do you have a favorite quote from any comic book, comic strip, or graphic novel?
Any quote you just love for whatever reason!
Let's hear it!
#FaveComicQuotation
Just got the go-ahead to show off some of the AMAZING art
@amancay_art
has been doing for our Hawkgirl run!
First off, check out this slight redesign for our heroine! I wanted a sleek superhero look, with massive, mace-slinging arms, and boy howdy did Amancay deliver!
This year will see the publication of two stories starring trans superheroes that I wrote, and that is so incredible I can't even believe it sometimes.
For those who don't know, the memorial parades following Stonewall were called many things, "Gay Liberation Parades," "Gay Power Parades," etc. It was L. Craig Schoonmaker who suggested using "pride" as the umbrella term, making it less political and more personal.
Folks! FOLKS! The Final Order Cutoff for the
#DCPride
special is SUNDAY! That's the book that has the Alysia Yeoh & Batgirl story that me,
@ProtokittyArt
,
@TBonvillain

made!
And you better believe me when I tell you that YOU WANT THIS STORY!!!
So you're excited about
#DCPride
🌈 and you've heard preordering before FINAL ORDER CUTOFF ON 5/1 is crucial to a comic's success, but you're not sure how to do it. Well you're in luck, because...
THE DEFINITIVE DC PRIDE 2022 PREORDER SHEET IS HERE!
I think enough people have read HAWKGIRL
#5
that we can talk about the retcon, right? Let's talk about the retcon.
As of HAWKGIRL
#5
, Kendra Saunders has always been a part of the Hawk legacy.
Whenever I find myself succumbing to despair due to current events, I remind myself that I wrote two comics how cool being trans is and both were published by the Superman people, which is not something I ever though would be possible.
So, it's not all bad.
I just want to remind folks that I made an in-continuity graphic novel about teen trans lesbian superhero named Galaxy and it's been called the "gayest book
@DCComics
has ever published."
You should read it.
Batman said Galaxy belongs here, so y'all can't tell me nothin'.

Despite the continual action of some to make LGBTQIA+ people disappear, we are still here.
I hope you, on this last day of June, feel Pride today. I hope you know what a hero you are.
There is no way queer and trans people can live safely while White Supremacy flourishes. We're a threat to the myth.
"How do we stop this?" We stop White Supremacy. There's no other way. 8/8
I have been informed that Galaxy: The Prettiest Star has nearly SOLD OUT of its initial print run, and DC is doing a SECOND PRINTING!!!
Thank you, thousands of people who bought a copy of my little gay story. You're incredible.
Didja know you can get 25% off of THE DC BOOK OF PRIDE if you pre-order from Barnes & Noble with the code PREORDER25? It's true!
So if you haven't pre-ordered a copy all ready, now is an excellent time:
Isabela Merced has apparently been cast as Hawkgirl in the upcoming SUPERMAN: LEGACY film. I don't know if she'll be playing Kendra--she's the right age for her, though--but it's fun to imagine a movie star reading comics I wrote as character research.
So, you know how Korra is a reincarnation of Aang, even though she had a very different personality and outlook?
That's how it is with Kendra and Shayera. They are part of a long line of reincarnated lives, but they are separate people.
BREAKING: Pennsylvania House Republicans just voted to NOT remove “homosexuality” from Pennsylvania’s obscenity laws.
Every single House Republican voted to kill the amendment.
Even before they painted her in the flag while she talked about being unable to share half her life, there were little dialogue touches all through the film that imply a masc childhood. Makes me wonder if there was an earlier draft that was more explicit with it.
I would write both of those in a heartbeat. But I also would happily hand them over to some great creator with more of those characters’ actual life experience.
My dreamm for Alysia was always to have a great Trans writer take over her destiny. Now we have
@planetx
doing that!
I got so caught up in showing y'all the amazing designs and interiors
@amancay_art
came up with for HAWKGIRL

If the genders aren't two separate groups, one who needs to protected and one that protects, then a supporting myth of White Supremacy falls apart.
Obviously, the people who are invested the rewards of White Supremacy are going to fight to keep that from happening 6/?

Hi, I'm Jadzia, it's
#TransAwarenessWeek
, I'm trans, and I write books that help you be more aware of trans people.
Like a graphic novel illustrating the trans experience, or a non-fiction compendium of LGBTQIA+ characters, or including trans folks in a cis superhero's cast.
If the Batgirl movie is in fact scrapped, it's really too bad we won't see
@MsIvoryAquino
as Alysia Yeoh. I bet she killed it.
Aw, well. We'll always have
#DCPride
2022.
I do think that calling them Pride Parades worked for what Schoonmaker had in mind. And the widespread popularity of Pride is wonderful.
But I do wonder how things would be different if we gave ourselves permission to dream bigger.
Galaxy is 22 in HAWKGIRL (as opposed to being 16 in GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR), and
@amancay_art
did a fantastic job of not just aging her up, but giving her a kick-ass superhero costume to boot!
Argus is pretty much the same.
The
#DawnOfDC
continues with oversized celebrations and new creative teams announced, including Michael Dorn reuniting with Steel! Visit to learn more.
How else can you paint a non-White person as simultaneously inferior and a threat? From that viewpoint, any racist action is justified, if it is in the service of protecting White women.
Trouble is, trans and queer people disrupt this idea something fierce. 2/?
Just a reminder that now is a great time to preorder HAWKGIRL

Not only is a queer trans woman (me) writing HAWKGIRL, I put the queer trans woman superhero I created in GALAXY: THE PRETTIEST STAR in as a supporting character!
So, that's two really good reasons to get into DC!
My therapist asked me to do something creative about the ‘little hurt” we all keep inside. So, in the grand tradition of so many queer and trans cartoonists, I decided to have a talk with my younger self.
