New fish are appearing off Odesa’s shores; from Korean stone perch to American blue crab. 🌊 Are they signs of climate change or just better observation? As new species arrive, local nature is changing fast. How do we protect it before it’s too late?

Samples are taken at selected locations in Iceland's Eyjafjörður river, and environmental DNA is filtered from the water onto filters, which are then stored in a solution that preserves the genetic material where it is then analyzed in the laboratory.

The research team at Eyjafjörður River: Erik Karlsson, Einar Eg. Nielsen, Magnus Wulff Jacobsen, and Þorleifur Ágústsson. Our project uses the latest genetic technology in environmental research, where environmental DNA (eDNA) will be used to detect pink salmon.

This is an automated environmental sampling machine that can filter sea and water, isolate genetic material, and quantify pink salmon. The research device is located in this container by the river and genetically analyzes water samples from the river in real-time.
