What solo character fans hate is the mischaracterization their faves are subjected to, the way their personality is stripped away, reduced to nothing but ship fodder, and the way it's nigh on impossible to appreciate their fave without some annoying mf making it about the ship.
really weird how solo character fans often hate their popular ship partners. like... that's their homie. their buddy. their second banana.

A lot of popular ship fans get weirdly parasocial/insecure whenever someone doesn't share their sentiments about their ship, and make it everyone's problem by trying to impose their fanon. That's what people hate. God forbid we love the characters as INDIVIDUALS first.
