Here's an open source punk song I wrote called "Florida." Lyrics: "LETS DRINK BLEACH. LETS GO TO THE FUCKING BEACH." Chord progression, F C A, F C/G A. Thirty seconds long. Be safe.
Thank you
@MNightShyamalan
for the very kind words prior to the premiere of
@KnockAtTheCabin
tonight. I have some mulling to do (my head is spinning) but early verdict is that the movie and performances are pretty great
If you walk into a building and you are asked to put a mask on for service and your response is to yell/berate the worker, then you are the biggest piece of shit in the universe.
Instead of what's your GoT or Hogwarts house. What's your horror house?
Hill House
House of Leaves
House of the Devil
House of Wax (1953)
Last House on the Left

Behold! The cover for my next book THE BEAST YOU ARE. A collection of fourteen short stories and one novella. Get beastly! Pre-orders are up now at the usual places. Please?
Just did an interview with my old local paper (the Salem Evening News) and the reporter said the story is happening because my mother had been emailing and asking why hasn't the local paper covered her son. Ma!
The book that kinda changed my life was published six years ago today. Seems like yesterday and forever ago. Thank you to all who have read/supported the book and stuck with me for a few more books since.
Thank you for all the kind words and well wishes on
@KnockAtTheCabin
‘s release day. I’m headed to dinner with family/extended family then we’re all going to the movies!
Hmm seeing complaints of heavy handed politics in my “pandemic book” that I wrote before the pandemic. Sorry I didn’t anticipate some readers might be butthurt over criticism directed at virus conspiracy theories and a disastrous federal response? I’ll work harder next time.
Can't praise Paul Tremblay's GROWING THINGS highly enough. 19 creepy classics that will turn your favorite easy chair into an uneasy chair. One of the best collections of the 21st century.
Peter Straub was a hero and I was fortunate to get to know him over the last decade plus. The news of his passing is gutting. All the love and best to his family and legion of friends and admirers.
Just rewatched THE DEAD ZONE (1983) and besides the eerie Trump/Stillson parallel, it might be the best King adaptation. As a film/story about loss, it hasn’t lost any of its power.
My sister is being forced back into the PACU because so many PACU/ICU nurses have quit her hospital, one of the largest in Boston. The amount of damage antivaxers, deniers, no-maskers are doing to our communities is incalculable.
Unfortunately I tested positive for Covid last night. First time getting it. Feels like a bad head and chest cold. If you were near me Saturday night after the Celsius 232 event, keep an eye on yourself. Currently resting and watching bad movies
A Head Full of Ghost is available as a cute pocket sized edition, can fit in your back pocket, starting now! It scared

even. I’ve since apologized.
A box of these beauties just showed up! I can’t wait for you, yes you, to read it. Publisher will later send out some of these with a fancy slipcase. Anyway, pre-order pretty please?

In Survivor Song, I wrote that at the end of the outbreak 10,000 lives were lost in Massachusetts. Today Mass passed that number in covid deaths and people still argue about masks and family parties and I want to rage throw up.
I'm 1-2 weeks (I hope) away from finishing a novel draft, so I'm going to try (try, I will!) to stay off this hell site in the interrum for the big finish. Be good to each other and see you in '23.
Honored that I have the great fortune to continue working with

Behold, the SURVIVOR SONG cover of the mass market paperback coming Sept 28th. Foxy!
Before that, on July 6th, the trade paperback hits and it includes a bonus 2000 word liner notes essay that I’m quite proud of (if I do say so myself).
That awkward space where everyone says bye at the end of the zoom call, fumble-sprints to find the mouse and the LEAVE button, & avoids looking at the remainders because you don't want to be creepy and might have to say bye again because of your slow clicking, that's where I live
Some super cool slipcased AREs of Horror Movie have arrived. I don’t know how
@WmMorrowBooks
will be distributing them, but these are all mine. MINE!!!
My eldest was assigned A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS by his creative writing teacher. He's being forced (finally) to read one of my books. Muhahahaha! He's 100 pages in. I asked if he thought it was scary. "I've said, 'Oh, shit,' out loud twice." I'm not crying....
As I get older and crankier (I'm trying not to, on both counts?), I grow more annoyed with people who reference issues with 'pacing' in a film/book and actually mean to say "I want more plot and explody/stabby things and not that lame character/mood/voice stuff."
I'm taking a break from yammering insesently about Lake Mungo to now yammer insesently about TAKE SHELTER. So restrained but brimming with dread and emotion. I love every frame of this film.
A second trailer for
#KnockAtTheCabin
, the adaptation of my novel The Cabin at the End of the World, lives. Looks great! (spoiler warning though, for those who want to know less about the plot when seeing it).
Will you make the choice?

Thank you, HWA. THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE WORLD is a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award. I'm honored and so pleased to be on the ballot with so many friends and talents. Congrats, all!
Copyedits have arrived for THE PALLBEARERS CLUB and I'm reminded that I don't know how to use commas. (Judging by the 11 explanations of comma usage in the style letter).
What, do ya expect, from, a math,,,, guy ?

is flat out brilliant. A scary, funny, heartbreaking, mind-bending horror movie. It's a masterclass in characterization. Beautifully shot and perfectly executed. I can't say enough about it and will be thinking about for a while (thread)
My holiday wish for anyone with 'but it's not really horror' on their lips is they should be boiled with their own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through their delicious heart.
A young friend of the family took his own life yesterday. Please reach out for help if you need it. And even if you don’t need the help; know you are loved.
1 yr ago on 3/15 I picked up my son--who had to leave college in LA--at the airport, and I was sick with worry and fear. Today I got shot one of Moderna.
Coming (lurching? burbling?) Sept 26th, "In Bloom" from Amazon Original Stories and the Creature Feature Collection (also with stories from Chandler Baker, Grady Hendrix, Joe Hill, Josh Malerman, and Jason Mott).
Five years ago today The Cabin at the End of the World was published. Happy birthday to the quiet, lakeside vacation book. A pastoral, even! And five years ago Holly and I had less gray in our beard, er, fur.
