Our findings revealed that large caimanines were particularly restricted to warmer regions with low seasonal temperature variation, an important insight for understanding their distribution across the Cenozoic.

We estimated body size of caimanine species and combined it with climate models, using a General Circulation Model to see how factors like temperature and seasonal temperature variation impacted the evolution of sizes in the group.

Caimanines, a group of crocodylians, had huge diversity, especially in the Western Amazonian region in the Miocene. This unique ecosystem was home to the incredible giants Mourasuchus and Purussaurus. But how did these caimanines reach such immense sizes?
