@old_soviet With very few exceptions, variance is inevitable; by the time the runbook is finalized the underlying systems have changed. The only time variance was never acceptable was in aerospace manufacturing, and that was just for processes that directly affected parts production.

@old_soviet It’s the checklist society. Every plebe is provided only a checklist and deviation from that checklist is thought only to lead to calamity. No training to actually learn why to do or not to do the checklist. Only directions to follow.
