I feel that there is a very big disconnection or knowledge gap between how fans rate/value/analyse a player and how coaches/scouts do.
Aesthetics, likeability and public perception plays a big part in the former's assessment. The latter just focuses on qualities that they desire.
'Fans' would prefer a CB that makes a goal-line clearance, blocks 2 shots in his 6 yard box, makes a 40 yard dash to toe tackle the ball away at the last moment.. things like these.
This same player could cost you goals but would/will go viral on social media.
While coaches or scouts would prefer a CB that never needs to do these things because he reads the game extremely well i.e. players who think quicker than the opponents. Who blocks the passing lane to prevent that pass in behind, who is first to react to a loose ball etc
Fans often only rate stuff that can be noticed - That bit of action, aesthetic or impact. But what isn't noticed usually gets little recognition, despite it being equally or more important to the whole. That's what the aim of analysis should be. That's worth educating about.

Pep said there are players who do a good amount of work, but never show up in stats.
Only a manager can truly understand the gravity of the job a player does for him. Most fans never will. Which is why they get annoyed when managers keep starting their least favourite players.

@BrandonHManuel
This is why major red flags were raised when, Manchester United went in for a player and subsequently withdrew their pursuit due to fan reaction. Something was utterly wrong with that sequence of events 😔
@nueverole
Agree this is why many fans didn't rate Perisic or turned their nose down to him when he was very good player and still holds quality despite age
@nueverole
also there are fans who asses goalkeepers only how much he making saves, strikers only on how much he scores, and players in general on how much trophies they have won
