NTU Agrees! Taxpayers need clarification more than ever. We have long asserted that reliable, data-driven tools capable of consistently predicting lending risk in an unbiased manner are vital to protecting taxpayers from massive future bailouts of GSEs like Fannie and Freddie.
Now is not the time for the Trump Administration to ease lending standards and increase risks for taxpayers who stand behind some $7.7 trillion mortgages backed by Fannie and Freddie.

When students take out a loan, they enter into a legally binding contract with the Department, which requires repayment of the loan in full. We are pleased to see the Department protecting taxpayers by ending the SAVE Plan that would have cost billions in unpaid loans.
As part of a federal court injunction, borrowers in the illegal SAVE Plan will begin accruing interest on August 1. The Trump Administration will support SAVE borrowers in selecting legal repayment plans that fit their needs & protect American taxpayers.
