A Nisga’a delegation visited us in August to see the Pole and to make a formal request for its return.

It’s believed the dress was originally worn at the Jacobite ball of 1745 held in Holyrood & would have fitted a modern UK size 6. Some time later it was altered to fit a modern size 16-18. (1/2)

Made in 1870, in a post industrialised Britain, this dress achieved its hue from the use of Aniline dyes. Today we know these as toxic and subject to fade rapidly. Our team undertook to recreate the original colour of the dress through careful textual analysis. (1 /2)

Nearly 5ft tall and made of a single piece of alder with pebbles for eyes, it was radiocarbon-dated to ~600 BC. But who, or what, does it depict?
