One thing I love about this JOP piece: debates on grit vs. personality often test traits in isolation. We measure multiple traits together and isolate their independent effects. And very few studies observe how citizens judge specific frontline bureaucrats—this one does.

Building on this APSR piece — our JOP companion article shows how street-level bureaucrats’ traits (PSM, grit, cognitive ability, Big Five) shape community leaders’ assessments of individual officers, but not broader views of government performance. https://t.co/6bAcZTSzfr

Research shows that bureaucrats’ performance is shaped by their personal characteristics, such as public service motivation, cognitive ability, grit, and Big Five personality traits. What impact do...
Really proud of our new article in @apsrjournal! @nicoravanilla @MatthewJNanes What does citizen contact do to police attitudes in conflict settings? For those interested in bureaucrats, embeddedness, conflict, mix-methods (field experiment + inductive): https://t.co/aNfMVsb9D0
