I just got my hands on a massive volume of WW1 letters from Indian soldiers serving in Europe to friends, wives, etc. Indian soldier describes France to his wife, 22nd March 1915

reminds me of the simpson’s episode where mulhouse’s dad was fired after his divorce. i suppose this “classical liberalism” to allow this but this has no resemblance to actual us liberalism for at least 70 years
Scott's idea that private companies should be able to prioritize hiring married men with families is completely within the bounds of reasonable debate, and, in fact, it's absurd that individuals cannot hire whomever they want in their own companies, with their own money.

“I love my immigrant neighbor” and “close the border! we’re full!” might be not too far off from the median voter
@razibkhan i think most sympathy for immigrants is for ones already here ( including non criminal illegals). which is one reason why biden opening the door to new asylum seekers was really stupid politically

great news, but “HIV community” is the funniest use of community i’ve heard. as someone whose heard “community” frequently to refer to indian castes ( which are really clans)…
The HIV community have welcomed the news of low-cost generic versions of lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injection to prevent HIV. However, there are concerns about whether it can reach all who need it. ✍️ Sophie Cousins reports: https://t.co/w5xrUqFrFi

A popular response to this is to blame the Common Law, but I'm skeptical. Firstly, anglosphere NIMBYism is a relatively recent phenomenon; the Common Law didn't prevent the growth of megacities like London or NYC, or industrial centers like Manchester or Pittsburgh. And it's not
Something deep in the Anglo soul simply rejects the concept of new houses. It even impacts the Dutch (the most Angloid of the continentals)

I read somewhere a Pakistani atheist student found Imagine inspirational and I moved towards anti-anti-Imagine
🚨NEWS: Muslims within 'Your Party' have complained that the conference ended with John Lennon's Imagine - A song which references a world with no religion "Your Party has been heavily criticised for being a hostile environment for practising Muslims." - 5 Pillars

the NYC metro currently permits as much multifamily as Houston per capita, far less single family, but the portion of available land for greenfield housing is really limits with the MSA limits
@JohnRiethLA @ResidentialClub Don’t worry there is always San Francisco to make you feel better. They were too far down to fit in the original screenshot. Second to last! Great job.

A strong sign of someone being a nonserious thinker is that they spend a lot of time arguing about the "correct" definitions of words The truth is words don't actually mean anything we just made them all up
Jesus: If someone says equilibrium is about stability and rest, they are illiterate and must be ignored Samuelson and Nordhaus: Equilibrium is about stability and rest, similar to a ball resting at the bottom of a hill 😂

this is one of those things that’s fine if a few people do; not fine if lots of people do. and until they do, erring on the side of freedom is best and no need to stop

Tangent to his point but disagree with the way moynihan is treated as a separate station from penn when it leads to the same tracks and trains as Penn, just the west end of the platform ( excluding tracks 1-4 of NJTRANSIT of course)
It should come as no surprise that someone who confuses Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall would have no idea that nearly a million Muslims live here — and that this is pretty normal.

this is incorrect. Some state constitutions (Pennsylvania, Vermont) that preceded the US Bill of Rights explicitly protected gun rights independent of military service. This is the context and culture the US Bill of Rights came from
Fun fact: If you ever wanted proof that modern gun politics is built on linguistic fantasy, here it is. A massive corpus study of 1.3 billion words from the Founding era shows that 99.2% of all uses of “bear arms” referred to military service, not hunting or personal
